Kevin Streelman's Ball Marker?

Recommended Posts

Quote from GolfWRX article

It’s kind of cool little new ball marker I’m using that is legal that can kind of give you some visual cues that I think is pretty helpful. I was using that today, which I think kind of helped, as well.

Looked at a couple of news websites - quite some articles talking about this but none with pictures. Anyone has a visual on this? Really curious what ball marker this is.

I just found this quote from Golf Digest, you may have already seen it: "It’s round like other ball-markers, as Streelman described it, but the top has a line on it and can spin around to help you align the marker with the hole. To allow the marker to spin without moving from its spot on the green, the marker has a longer normal spike to anchor it into the ground."

It sounds like it could be similar to this, it seems interesting for people who putt with a line on the ball.

I have no idea what specific marker he is using.  One like this maybe?

https://www.golfwrx.com/695175/pga-tour-caddie-tim-tucker-launches-true-aim-ball-markers-to-help-you-read-greens-better-plus-brysons-feedback/

or the one quoted in the above post.  Not sure about the spike though; testing the green?

I recall there’s a detailed explanation about legal markers in the Rules of golf.

Its really tough to read an article whos whole point is talking about some *thing* or some particular object - without a picture of said object.

Can't believe no one thought of making something like that long ago.

Still can't believe that this is USGA legal.

The Rules of Golf are one thing (and obviously legal) but do not the Tour's have criteria about ball markers?  Some things that might be USGA Legal are not allowed on Tour.

Am I wrong about this?

I recall their regulation requires a round coin like object.  I think it was Feherety, hungover one morning, and not too organized,  didn’t have a coin in his pocket so used his hotel room key and got penalized.

according to the USGA rules:

Ball-Marker: An artificial object when used to mark the spot of your ball to be lifted, such as a tee, a coin, an object made to be a ball-marker or another small piece of equipment.

There is no penalty for violating this definition, but you opponent can ask you to use a proper ball marker. For instance, if they are using a poker chip you request that they replace it.

What if you say no? I mean, I know some people don't like poker chips, but that's more of a personal preference thing, IMO.

If it is a friendly game you can argue and choose not to play with them; if it is in a competition you can call an official who can force them to comply.

If there is a poker chip in my field of vision near my line (before or after the hole) I absolutely ask for it to be replaced.

Feherty absolutely got penalized for it--under a PGAT rule, not under a USGA/R&A rule.

Hmm I honestly don't know how you would use this...

Like

  • Put the ball marker down
  • Pick the ball up
  • Align the ball marker? (is this even allowed? i thought you are not supposed to touch your ball marker until your ball is put back)
  • Align the ball with the ball marker
  • Check the double alignment
  • Pick the ball marker up?
  • Haha 1

This one seems like a way better concept. It is larger though.  If it were slightly smaller and lower profile could be money.  I like the fact you can adjust with your putter.

I guess the fact it has a spike allows for you to rotate it without being penalized. Maybe that's why Streelman wanted to submit to usga to get the okay?

The spike might hurt in the pocket though. The skinny pant crew may have issues
