Club Fitter Obligations

I was recently fitted for new irons, hybrids, 3 wood and driver. Purchased clubs through the fitter. I went to test my stock yardages today and there seem to be some pretty significant gaps between clubs, mainly toward the end of the bag.

Question: does the club fitter have an obligation to help with spacing after the fitting? Can I go back to the fitter and reasonably expect him to bend the clubs to create balanced spacing?

It depends on when the fitting was and when you discovered the gap discrepancy. Whether the club fitter has an obligation depends on his character and if he's struggling to make ends meet. Another consideration, if your game is different from when you were fit, you may have caused the discrepancy; then you should offer to pay for his time.

I was fitted for the irons six months ago, and for the hybrids, three wood and driver two months ago. Now that the weather has improved I’ve been playing more and noticed the gap. Finally took the clubs to the trackman today to pinpoint the gaps.

What are the specific clubs that gapping poorly?
What are the clubs’ lofts?
What is the yardage gap between clubs?

What do you want the gaps to be?

How are you measuring the yardages?

Just go back to the fitter and take it up with him/her.

There are no standards for what fitters are obligated to do - largely because there is no commonly adapted standard for what constitutes a "fitting." Part of the due diligence in picking a fitter is to determine that before the fitting.

I will say that for many fitters - it's not uncommon that a "gap fitting" tends to be a separate service - but sometimes it might be included with the original fitting for the set.
