i230 missing from PING irons commercial

Hi all,

 

Anyone else found it interesting that the i230 are missing from PING's latest Irons commercial? It includes the G730, G430, i530, and Blueprint S, but omits the i230.

 

Are they planning to replace it (again?) - would be very fast for PING. Or does it sit in an awkward place between i530 and Blueprint S? I found it really odd. Also not played a lot on tours, even compared to the i210.

I doubt if there is any significance to the omission.  The commercial doesn't include the Blueprint T irons or the ladies' irons.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next i2xx model come out by next year.  The i200 was replaced by the i210 in about 2 years.  It’s the i210 that kind of broke the cycle and stuck around longer due to its popularity and performance.  I don’t think history will look as favorably at the i230 as the i210 and we could go back to a more traditional release cycle.

They have a bunch of irons in their current lineup.  Feels like they could have combined a few and had less today irons, but what do I know....

I wouldn’t call the i230 a dud, but it’s hard to follow a legend like the i210.  Lebron’s little brother, Steven, knows the feeling.

 

What would be cool is if the i240 is the BPS pumped up a bit.

I found it interesting and said the same thing when I saw it. 
 

Blueprint S seems to be off to a hot start  making the i230 a little out of place.  I know you can power spec but it seems like i230 needs to be more of a T150 type of iron with Blueprint S being like T100.

Yeah I mean, I don’t think the g430 is a much newer iron. The blueprint T aren’t a product for the masses. 
 

between that and a few tour pros who played the i210 switching back or switching to the Blueprints, it doesn’t strike me as a massive success. 
 

curious to see what they do next with it. Probably need to shrink the profile and get it closer to a T150? I feel like it should’ve been what tur blueprint S is.

Seems to perfect to do a combo set with the BPS and i230s though. IMO it seems harder to do that in the Titleist line with the t100 and t150 due to the loft jacking.

Lydia Ko has won twice since switching to an i230/BPS combo in November.

I've always thought the I series was supposed to be between the g and s or blueprint. For some reason all of wrx wants them to be another blueprint. I don't think they need to redo the wheel just make an updated i200 or i210 iron and they would be fantastic.

Completely agree. To me they've always (correctly) been the in-between club aimed at aspiring players in the 5-15 handicap range. What would be the point of just making them like the BPS?

What I noticed is how the heads became progressively smaller (shorter with more ball showing from the top of the iron head) ... interesting view.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the successor to i230 comes out next January. That said since I put them in the bag a few months ago I’ve been enjoying them and will continue to do so even though I plan on adding a set of blueprint S to my roster. They feel so complementary to each other

I cannot see the i230’s having legs like the i210 did.

 

Would not surprise me at all to see a replacement sooner rather than later.
