Formerly Stiff now Regular….shaft advise

I have been playing with S flex shafts (swing speed 104).  I was recently fit into irons with a R flex shaft with a swing speed at 88.  I will admit they gelt so much better than the same club with a stiff shaft. My question is… should I now change my driver to a R shaft or keep it at S?  I have a Ping G410 so I’ll take shaft recommendations if you want to give them.

I wouldn't just arbitrarily make that change. If it's still working for you, great. Can always get fit on the driver as well, just to see where things are at. Flex designation between irons and driver are apples and oranges anyway, and not really relevant to one another, IMO.

I have come to be at peace with the fact that I have different flexes in different clubs. It used to bother me because it didn’t seem to make sense.

I swing hardest with my driver, but it turns out I’m good with Stiff in some beefy profiles (Ventus Black, PING Tour Black, Accra RPG Gold).

Then 3w I’m good with Stiff.

But then my 5/6 wood is an X.

Then my 4U is Stiff.

Then one set of irons is X.

My other set of irons is Stiff.

Especially because different OEMs don’t really compare 1:1, and then because wood shafts don’t compare 1:1 on iron or hybrid shafts, it really doesn’t have much meaning.

As long as you get the shot you want from each club, don’t worry! It bothers me less and less these days to have a perfectly “cohesive” set of clubs. I change them too often to worry about it anyway 🤪

I had DG300 S in a set of Cobra i/h 3100 from the early 2000's.  Went into KBS Max 85 S in my Sim2 Max irons.  Now just got fitted into MMT 70 R flex in my new PXG 2011 XCor2 irons.  My 7i SS is 78-82 but I have a smooth tempo swing.  My driver is a 55g S flex.  I tried a R flex in the driver and didn't like it.  It was hard to control if that makes sense.

I have Maltby 4W and 21* UW with the MPF Pro Series in R flex but that shaft runs a stiff regular

I have a Cleveland Hy-Wood with a counterbalanced 45g counterbalanced shaft in S flex.  The R flex would have been a bad idea.

Point being, it all depends on your swing, the shaft you use and what you want in feel.  I used to want to have a matched bag with same name on every club as well.  Got over that 😆

It also isn't always relevant between different model iron shafts.

In fact shaft flex labels are not much more than just a suggestion for a starting point in the shaft selection process.

FYI - Knowing the flex doesn't help us without know the exact model and weight shaft in addition to the flex.

Just as an example, going from a Nippon 105 stiff to an TT DG Reg flex - is actually moving to a stiffer shaft, not a softer one.

But some of the earlier advice is good.   Simply put - if there is  nothing wrong with either the feel of the shaft or the performance you get out of it - there is no real need to change.  Those are the only two metrics that matter.

Now, if you want to go around and experiment with some alternatives (demo's or testing out alternatives from fitting carts) - nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the daily knowledge dumps.  That statement solves a huge mystery on why I hate DGs.  Hated em since I was a junior in the 90s and it was basically all you could play.  Hated em when I got back into golf a year ago.  Fitters always trying to get me into DG stiffs, when I should have probably been in R.  I landed on 105 stiffs and love them.  Prefer mellower iron shafts.
