TaylorMade TP Red 2008

Recommended Posts

can anyone please clarify?

which ball is the higher spinning one?

i thought the red was the "pro v1" and the tp black was the "pro v1x"?

On TM's site they have a chart that shows trajectory - Red is low, Black is high; that equates to Red being a lower spinning ball for high spin players like myself; black is the higher spinning ball that produces a higher trajctory for people that need help spinning the ball.

http://www.taylormadegolf.com/mainlevel/golfshop.html#30I10

Red=ProV1X

Black=ProV

Keeping in mind when trying to understand which does what if a player hits a Black further then Red, it's not surprising he might think Black is the longer ball when in fact that ball is best fit for his SS and ball striking.

Correct-a-mundo.

But NOW keep in mind the TP Red is NON-conforming.

The ball with the "/" on the side stamp, as in "TP/RED", is the NON-conforming ball.

Newly released(?), although I haven't found any, is the current CONFORMING TP Red that says "TP RED" on the side stamp (no "/")

Red is only non-conforming for USGA tournament play; has nothing to do with normal handicap play. I haven't encountered any retail balls without "/" either.

Having read TM's post regarding "why" its non-conforming; even though the whole world batch had to be made non-conforming the percentage of balls causing the problem are minimal when the worlds production is considered. Which translates to mean the odds of you or I actually playing one of the non-conforming balls is unlikely.

The bottom line is that the TP Red stays the same, only the side stamp has changed. Because the TP Reds that are in the market now, with the original side stamp, were ruled conforming to the Rules of Golf, they can continue to be used in normal play, including those rounds in which scores are posted for handicap purposes.

That's because only high-level tournaments, like tour events and USGA competitions, typically require contestants to use a ball that's on the List. Most club championships and member guests don't.

Of course, no matter what kind of tournament you're playing in, it's a good idea to ask an official beforehand if you need to play a ball on the Conforming Ball List. If a listed ball is required, you'll need a TP Red with the new side stamp. If not, the original side stamp will do fine for the kind of recreational golf that almost all golfers play, including weekend Nassau's, skins games and scores posted for handicap purposes.

You can identify the TP Reds with the new side stamps easily because we've put a sticker in the top right-hand corner of the box and on individual sleeves reading "TP Red Tournament Edition."

interesting that many of you are saying that the red spins less that the black i thought it was the other way around?? the red is comparable to the prov1, nike one plat, etc. and the black was a comp to the prov1x, nike one black, etc. is this not correct??

yeah, that's what i thought too. on the sleeve, it says 'for higher spin players' (red) and on the black, it says 'for lower spin players'...

Non conforming??

Are you kidding - just dumped $80 on a box of TP reds ready for the club champs and checked the side stamp "TP/RED.LDP" I think if I try and take them back to my local pro shop they would flat out laugh at me! Can't see this being an issue in the club champs though - no-one inspects ball sidestamps!!

You spent 80$ on a dozen balls? They're having a 2 dozen for 55$ deal at golfsmith, and most proshops.

Yup. Those are NON-conforming.

I doubt anybody in MY club would look at the sidstamps either but ONE guy in particular probably would just to bust my balls and even if I HAD the right ball he'd be complaining and claiming it WASN'T the right ball just to aggravate me.

Soooooo, I've been playing the ProV1x for the last few weeks and will play THEM through the Club Championship.
