So I've been a member here for 5 years and just found out this section of the forum existed. Pretty cool to see the MN wrxers!

I'm a member at Tanners Brook and play weekday mornings if anyone is interested let me know.

 

I play in the Thursday men's league there! 10 Min from home!

Is anyone trying to qualify for the am or mid-am at Gross or oak marsh and want to play some practice rounds?

Also playing in the Twin Cities Championship if anyone wants to play bunker or Keller would be fun let me know.

 

Are you going to try to qualify for the match play and state am? I see Oak Marsh on the the list for the match play and Gross is a site for the am. I would bet you'll have a pretty competitive field at Gross.

 

I have one more day to decide if I want to blow $80 to qualify for the match play (senior div - just turned 55). I've played with enough of these guys to know I have no chance in the actual event, but would still like to qualify and play at least one match. Probably will end up at Brookview.

Yes trying to qualify for both. It's my second year playing tournament golf, I know I can shoot low enough scores, but am also in it for the experience. It really gives all the practice a purpose. If I don't qualify I will work on my weaknesses. I'm sure the scores will be very low at gross.

Well I shot 79 in the mid-am qualifier at oak marsh. Not going to get it done, but I played pretty good. My playing partners had a much better short game than me. I know what I need to work on.

It is great that you recognize what needs to be worked on! Don't forget to keep the other parts of your game sharp while focusing on that.

Hosting a tourney here in Atwater on June 11th. Individual Stroke Play, $80 to play, must have a USGA compliant handicap, gross and net winners. Have some cool giveaways including a Piretti putter. Optional players pool and an optional skins pool (both gross and net) that a local bar Pep's of Atwater is adding an extra $250 into. Really like to get as many players out here as possible. I actually did well in the casino - my god! the greens were FAST!!!!! I shot 86 with FIVE 3 putts.

 

Played the Wilderness yesterday (shot 83) - what a beautiful place - it was finally not cart path only (its been such a wet Spring) - everything about it was top notch including the food..

 

Playing in a 3-day Member/Guest at Ridgeview CC this weekend - that and Northland are two places you almost have to memorize the greens (the Lake Superior effect is nuts!)

I would have no problem never going back there to play - super tough greens - definitely not a "resort course" - glad I went, but will not be going back anytime soon. Nothing relaxing about playing that one.

Love Ridgeview, talk about fast greens! If you miss on the wrong side of the hole it's a good chance it's going off the green. Played in the Arrowhead Invitational their last year and going back for it again this year.

Love playing Ridgeview you definitely need to beware of the lake effect. Northland is overrated from what I've been told. The Wilderness is one of my favorites though.

Heading up to Chaska Town Course tomorrow, should be a fun place to play. Hopefully I can keep my game where it has been and post a good round.

Chaska Town is a good track. Love playing there all except #11. That is one hole you have to hit a good tee shot down the left to have a go at the green. To far right and you're hosed by the trees. It's always in great shape.

New here to golfwrx. Chaska is nice I live 5 min away. Good luck out there. Follow the advice for 11 and 3 is also a bit of a stupid hole in my opinion. 2 and 18 are some of my favorites around though.

 

Does anyone here play in the golfchannel or golfweek am tour events? I'm 32 and spent a fair amount of my teenage years racing different forms of motherhood. I am missing some Competition in my life. Also looking for practice motivation. Just looking for a review on these. Is it worth joining half way through the season?

Chaska was a fun course to play, wind was blowing pretty hard and it was humid. Didn't play as well as I would have liked but I still really enjoyed the course.

headed up for ryder cup but also looking to play during that week as well. What courses should I check out. I am just by myself as far as playing goes on this trip. I have never played in mn and don't mind driving an hour or so to play nice course.

Not sure if this has been discussed but Golfsmith is Minnetonka is closing. I was in today and what's left is pretty well discounted. I guess PGA superstore has claimed its first victim.

Don't know if PGASS had much to do with it considering that the entire company is up in the air at the moment. I would be surprised if the other two stores here in MN make it through the bankruptcy (that is if it doesn't end up being converted to chapter 7 and complete liquidate).

 

As for other stores being impacted by PGASS, the only ones close by are 2nd Swing which will be fine and GG in Plymouth which could see some impact.

I agree, 2nd swing has a niche. I'd be surprised if GG up the freeway survives another few years though. I don't see the golf market sustaining that many different stores right now in the metro area because the golf merchandise market seems to have been trending the wrong way for several years. I thought GG got really watered down after Dicks bought them and ditched Golfworks and stopped carrying shafts, ferrules, and component heads. They may not have made a lot of money on those but they drew a certain segment of golf people and weather it's any better or not, a bigger newer fish has just entered the pond. Of course I could be wrong.

There are tickets for Tuesday - Thursday so I'd assume that it's not open. I don't think that finding tickets for the early days is too difficult though. I've seen them in a number of places (including our very own BST).

Phalen was PACKED yesterday. Just packed. There was even snow on some of the greens...WTH?
