Cheap training aids

I am looking to improve in every aspect of my game. I was wondering waht some cheap training aids that I could use would be. Preferable stuff that I could find around the house or could pick up at Lowes or Home Depot.

"Red Brick" - Place just outside the ball, tends to cure that nagging over the top move as well as cure the sh%*ks. :)

A mop is a great way to help get the correct arc and also get the correct snsations for the downsing and the release....the mop needs to be cut down to the length of a 5wood.......a brush is also great as you can use this for the correct release and see what thebrush head does through the ball relative to a clubface.

 

I have a club with a towel tied onto the end this si brilliant for getting the correct sequence to the downswing and can create the perfect plane to your through swing and help you to retain your angles and get a good release..........I have an inside approach I have made myself.......Also a swimming noodle with rods in is great when set up for you to work on your overall swing from many many aspects.

I have an either or for you, 1 will cost 3 bucks @ Home Depot and the other is take your 3 & 4 iron and use them..

 

I started this a month ago, and love it! I take 2 wood dowels or 2 my 3&4 irons lay them on the ground parallel to each other, put the ball between them and hit balls. Gotta say using the 3 & 4 really makes you slow down and conentrate on your path more because of fear of killing your clubs with your club! LOL

 

Anyways, I use that drill to work on my swing path and it has been a great help, even though I had 82 putts the other day I still struck ball pretty well. I also incorporated the 9 to 3 drill into my practice to help get set..

 

IMO, you don't need to spend any money for the most part on any gimmicky deal.. I have a few broken shafts that I've turned into weighted clubs and shortened practice clubs.. if your dead set on spending on gimmicks, look on ebay I guess.. I also think lessons would be better than a training aid..

Weighted golf club donuts are pretty good. I often get to the course minutes before my tee time and I'll take a few swings w/ the donut on the first tee box. Seems to help a bit.

 

And I use it in my house as well. But a Momentus is the way to go- IMO. ~$50 on Ebay.

4 1/2' Fiber Glass Rods found at Home Depot or Sticking out of the ground where landscapers have been. These are awesome tools for assisting with alignment and swing plane and work very well on the range. These are the rods we see in PGA players bags. I have been using them for several years.

 

 

Pop up MESH clothes hamper, chip balls into it for landing practice. It catches the balls in the net and it is really cheap.

 

Weighted "Troy Bar" to be used like a weighted club such as a speed stik, momentus, etc for stretching and swing plane assistance.

haha good idea on the brick. But, you might want to try to get a piece of Styrofoam from Walmart or Micheal's. Much more inexpensive.

The cheapest places I have seen the weighted 5 or 6 iron is Wal Mart or KMart. They are knock-offs or the Momentus(?) I think. I bought an Imtech from Wal Mart for $24.95 in orange. KMart has them for $27.95 in blue. Target has them too but I think they are $30 plus.

 

The weighted iron has the molder grip to insure your grip is correct. It als helps your muscles to get used to the grip and get built up.

Hi There

I use 4 poles for my teaching and this makes a great swing plane training aid very cheap around 20.00 for 4 poles and you can set them up in the back yard.

Cut off steel shaft with a grip. Free from a trash can on the course or wherever. Seves the purpose of a bunch of training aids...

 

- Stick it in the ground on the angle of your shoulder plane and hit the ball from under it. Instant "pane of glass". You don't need to get it really that far under. I only go about halfway under, my mind get's the point without having to hit it.

 

- Stick in the ground at 90*. Put the outside of your rear foot against it, stop the staightening of the back leg and hip sway by reaching back, turning and creating more space between the hip and shaft on the backwing.

 

- Same as above but with front foot against it. I found this to give a good feeling of hitting into a firm left side.

 

- Obvious to use it on the ground outside of the ball as an alignment aid.

 

- With the driver especially but with any club... put it on a straight line to target a foot or so behind the ball on the ground. Take the club back inline with the shaft for as far as possible. This will stop the inside takeaway and keep the clubhead outside of the hands. I need to do this one next time at the range as I've been yanking some drivers and 3W's left off the tee lately.

For putting, a cheapo putting arc (gated strokes) can be made with a metal yardstick and three tees. Bend it slightly against the middle tee and hold the ends in place with the other two.
