Anybody using a bullseye putter? Tell me about it?

I own about 15 putters. 14 of them are late model (last 2 or 3 years) high cost, high tech, names you would recognize that claim to be state of the art engineered, designed, and manufactured. Believe me, if I listed them you would recognize every single one. Hand made, inserts, exotic materials, moi, weights, balanced, special shafts & grips and on and on - you get the picture.

 

But I putt the best with a 15 year old, no tech, no name bullseye putter that looks like it was stolen from the local miniature golf course. This thing couldn't have cost more than $10 when it was new 15 or 20 years ago. Truly no tech - not even an alignment line.

 

Anyone else using a bullseye as your go-to putter? What are you using? Have you tried the new (non-bullseye) stuff?

When my putting is "off", I use a Scotty Camerson model of the Bull's Eye for a few rounds... it seems to get the grove back and I put better again... it is a great design that is simple and balanced even though it has been around forever... Bob 6hdcp

I use an ancient Acushnet Bullseye Old Standard...putting is one of the few things I'm not bad at ...at least for me. Generally no more than one 3 putt per nine.

A true Bullseye is brass , which gives it a nice sound at impact.

The rounded edges at the top make the putter smooth,friendly looking. The rounded edges at the sole promote the putters glide action.

The radius sole allows for different lie angles.

The slender back to front profile makes it easy to swing.

The center shaft design helps alignment and contributes to the putters exceptionally well balanced overall look.

Without a doubt the most functional putter ever , a true work of genius design.

Some of my best putting has come with an old Reuter Bullseye. The feedback that the putter provides is second to none. I've added some lead tape to the sole to help with the weight, but it still has the old original leather grip. While it's fun to take a handmade Mills out for a few holes, my old Bullseye is tough to beat.

Scotty Cameron Flange 33/350, cut down to 32 inches - MONEY! When greens are really fast I occasionally drop a really old Bullseye 'light blade' in to the bag. Super light, made of berilium copper I believe, and with excellent feel.

For nostalgic purposes, I picked up a Cleveland Designed By 1948. This is Cleveland's tribute to the Bullseye.

 

My gamer is an Odyssey White Hot #2. I putt well with it so I'm not looking to replace--at least for now. :clapping:

 

So my question . . .

 

The 1948 has nearly 6 o'clock toe hang. I have a slightly gated stroke. Should the 1948 more or less work well with my current Zing-style stroke?

Beat up Golfsmith Brassmaster Bullseye for me. 32" made myself, along with a couple others to have around the house for quick practice strokes.

 

It is not currently bagged, but when I need to work on getting my grove back it is my go to.

Bullseye putter are just hard to beat. I owned a Pro Plat blade, brass SC blade,brass SC flange and a Acushnet offset like McNulty uses.All work great for me.

The design is almost too simple yet about as efficent as any putter can be. They are super easy to align correctly and money fron 10' in but as good as anything made outside of that distance.

I own other more exepensive putters and have tried all the High Tech stuff but if you just want to putt better and score well a Bullseye can help you do that.

They may not have the "Cool Factor" working in the looks dept but they have the lower your putts per round factor going and that matters more to me personally.

I used an old John Reuter Jr design for approx. 10 years or so... decided I had enough of the "putt-putt" jokes so bought a Scotty Studio Style. Didn't even realise at the time Scotty made a Bullseye. Used the Studio Style for about a year but never realy got comfortable with it. One day went back to the ole Bullseye and whalla.... felt like I was home again! Since then have gathered a little collection of bullseyes. Way to go for me!

I was putting with a Yes! Marilyn for about a year. However, my stroke was inconsistent. When I hit incorrectly, it still had good distance control. However I wanted to go old school but trying a SC Bullseye Blade out. From the start, I set up the ball just to the left of center, aligned my body parallel to the target line and using a predominantly shoulder stroke, I have been doing well with it.

 

It has a nice feeling with well struck shots. Originally it was supposed to be my training club. However, now it's my gamer.

I've got a bullseye laying around here somewhere.. I'm not sure what brand it is since its all black. Still works a charm though :)

Those Scotty Bullseyes are gorgeous... I love the second one from the right.

 

I was scouting eBay for a cheap nice brass Bullseye until someone posted the $30 Cleveland CMM bullseye deal. I wish I had paid the extra $5 for 2-day shipping now. It will be here early next week but I want it in my hands NOW! :)

 

Nothing like simplifying putting to the bare minimum like a Bullseye..

QWKDTSN... the second from the right is my actual gamer... It has a 3x Oilcan finish with a Scotty Custom Shop Winn grip... that bad boy is heavy with a D7 swingweight! :)

Both major winning Aussie players.

Ive owned a couple Bulls-Eyes and I loved them. They are definetly low-tech, but they work very well for what they are.

Id take a Bulls-Eye any day over some of the newfanged, spaceship-like mallet putters that are on the market today.

Oftentimes, simpler is better.

Don't forget Tour presence from Corey Pavin, Bob Estes and Steve Jones and Champions Tour guys Bob Charles and Mark McNulty. Every pro still using a Bullseye is regarded as a top-notch putter. I think it's because of having no offset or plumber-necks. Very easy to aim. Sweet spot is small, but findable and brass material feels sweet. The old ones used to come with nice leather grips. Cameron Bullseye knockoffs are nice, but it's hard to beat a Reuter! Faldo made the longest putt in Master's history on #2 green when he used an old Bullseye and Greg Norman used one for a long time as well. Jack Nicklaus had one early in his career that he named "White Fang". When the Ping Anser came along, the Bullesye got pushed aside. Have we made progress? Would Tiger putt better with a Bullseye? I thought I saw a picture of his as a little kid using a Bullseye.

I grew up with a Bullseye copy and later bought a Titleist Reuters Bullseye. The latest Scotty renditions, American Classic III, would be my preferred Bullseye, with the wide flange.

 

I still putt with a blade -- the SeeMore mFGP. I like the meat in the middle of the putter and less weight on the perimeter - it seems to make the putter very neutral.

I have an old bullseye that feels great that i putt with now and again. Matter of fact i just pulled it out of the closet today and may give'er a go tomorrow morning.

 

I was just wondering if someone could tell me what style it is and what the numbers mean on the bottom....I would appreciate it just to give me some info on what i have.

 

It says Acushnet Bullseye Standard M4C John Reuter Jr Design on the bottom.

just picked up a used 33/350 bullseye flange and love it. Easy to roll and hit putts from downtown. Love it so much, had to pick up a new SC Bullseye putter cover for it with pivot tool to make sure she's happy! :)
