I hit it high with LOTS of spin

I am currently hitting a 9 degree FT-3 with a fujikura Fit ON 370 (83 grams) . (launching it pretty good but still in 3500-4000 backspin rate)
I used to hit a Launcher 460 with Aldila NV (5500 backspin!!!)

Ideally I would like to keep hitting it fairly high, but get my spin down to 2900-3000 range.

would shortening the shaft help at all?

Any suggestions?

Three shafts come to mind. Fujikura VTLT, Fujikura speeder 757, and Matrix Ozik F7M2 LTD. I am sure others have a bit more experience, I also think that the aldila protopype could help you out. No matter what the E370 is a Higher Spin shaft, especially untipped in a Callaway Head.

I'm not sure any shaft could help THAT much. The VTLT and F7M2 LTD mentioned, a heavy PYPE, WB 83, 8Z08, 8M2 they're the type of shafts that are super low spin.

What is your SS and what flex are you playing?

 

Whiteboard, Speeder 757, Protopype, as others have mentioned will bring it down.

 

I doubt shotening would do anything.

My ss is between 115 and 120. I am playing a stiff E370...I purchased the e370 bc it was hi launch lowspin, but I am figuring there is probably one that spins even less that I could get extra distance out of

Fujikura Speeder 757 is a classic and a good bet. Diamana Whiteboard may give similar results for a few more bucks.

You could go to a X-Stiff shaft or go to a 8 degree face?

I can assure you the 757 is not in the same league as WB, VTLT or Oziks in terms of spin reduction. There are better options nowadays for that purpose.

Best bets would be the OZIK XCON-7 or the Diamana Blue 73 if you want to have the higher launch with less spin. The F7m2 and the Whiteboard will launch too low but knock the spin down.

I just remember that the FT-3 is a higher launching club than most. It's supposed to be, because it's meant to be slightly more forgiving.

So you need to go X-stiff and lower face angle.

do not use the speeder 757 in that head. I have similar swing speed and have an x that has been tipped one inch and if i swing hard i overload that shaft and spin i out of the sky about 30 yards short of normal. I tried and x-con 7 x in the head and was 15 yards longer on average.

Its not really a high launching head, not sure where you got that from. FT-3 was known to be a very long head, FT-5 basically came out to add some launch and forgiveness in a more conventional shape... Get an altus or X-con series, they do what their supposed to do if you want to keep your height.

I have the E370 on a Ping G5 9 degree and it produces a medium high ball flight with a boring trajectory with a moderate amount of spin.It had a irod 65g driver shaft before the fuji that produced so much spin and loft it was almost impossible to hit straight and very frustrating.The fuji shaft is so much better and more manageable especially with windy conditions on the ping than the irod was. A lot depends on the plane of your swing and speed i think but i'm kinda new to the game and learning.It usually goes about 250 carry on a decent day with this combo but it has gone 280 when you hit it pure on a good day.

I have the same issues in terms of spin and have been trying shafts for the last 2 years to try to beat this...the best I have found is the Fuji VTLT in x flex. Great shaft and it still has a nice feel in x-stiff. Got me down into the low 2000's from the high 4000's. Technique changes work better than equipment. I have found a 1000rpm difference between a fade and a draw. Mishts low and off the heel will spin a ton as well.

if youre spinning the ball that much, take a look at your swing. most specifically, your angle of attack. if youre getting 4000+ rpm backspin, no shaft in the world will cut that down to where it should be. invest in a swing analysis/lesson instead and see if you arent hitting slightly down on your driver.
