Golf after a layoff

Spring has finally sprung its 60* and sunny out. Your golfing buddy calls and invites you to go golfing in 20 minutes. You haven't swung a club in over 4-5 months.

Do you go golfing or do you decline and maybe go to the range and work out the winter kinks before teeing it up on the course.

What you're crazy???? j/k I'd go and play if I was in your shoes. Damn all the rust and playing some golf will take care of some rust from your game. You might play well being mentally fresh.

I'd go, try to shake off the rust the best I could. And hope there's a range at the course he wants to play at.

By all means go play and enjoy it. You may play better because you have no expectations of yourself and will just go out and enjoy yourself because you can actually get out and play instead of sitting in the house. :D

This is a no brainer. You play! So what if you haven't swung in 5 months. It's a nice day so take advantage of it because you may not be able to play for another month due to the spring rain that comes.

 

I live in PA and we don't even get to enjoy the spring because as soon as winter ends we get about two months of straight rain and then immediately it gets to 90*. Drives me :D

Go and take your chances. By the 5th hole, I'm sure most of my winter rust will be chipped away enough to have a good shot or two in me!

I've always found that when I put the the least pressure on myself (ie really, really do not expect anything great to be produced on the course) I tend to do well. I just ease the shots and play the right clubs (one more than I would like in many cases) and hit a lot of greens.

 

Like when I got to play the first round after my daughter was born. It was a bit complicated and we had to spend several months in or close to the hospital. No time to even dream about golf. I played a round and ended up shooting one over par with several missed good birdie opportunities!

 

By stating this I guess your hopes are already up so now you're jinxed. Sorry! :D

Play and if the course is not crowded, you have the time and you are not playing for $$$, play two balls.

I'm often pleasantly suprised when I play again after a layoff. I would go and play and try to enjoy yourself.

Definitely play. You're not playing to make the PGA TOUR, or make a living, you're playing for FUN. Any time spent on the golf course is fun in my book!

Definitely Play ... I'm in the same boat ... I haven't played in 3 mths and will play with a friend the 1st Weekend in March ... No expectations, but to Grip-It & Rip-It !!!
