Black Gold shafts,, don't know what to think of them

I have just recieved a set of irons with Black Golds, I am really not sure what the thing about them, they seem to hit very high, I just don't know what to think,,, what do you guys think? I have been use to playing x100's and just recently started playing PX 6.0's.

I have been very happy with my black golds and the flight, per true temper it is designed to be a low to mid trajectory, and I find when I compare it to say a PX (non flighted) the trajectory is a bit lower which is fine by me since I am a high trajectory player anyways.

I have never hit the X-100 but I thought the Dynamic golds were suppossed to have about the lowest ball flight of the bunch.

Is there a difference lofts on your new clubs?

Overall I think it is a very good shaft, but I have heard a few differing opinions on that including a Titleist rep who basically laughed at me when I asked if I could order that shaft in the Zblend irons.

I have had them since April. When I first installed them I wasn't sold, but the more I played the better I liked them. I I also thought the ball flight was a little high - especially in the short irons. However, I either became accustomed to the flight or realized despite the high ball flight they were ballooning. I think it took a month or so to get used to the shafts.

Ya he didnt think it was to funny when I said well its probably time I meander down to the mizuno tent to check out their irons instead.

The one thing I really do like about the shaft is the cpm and freq consistancy throughout the set, it has really helped me dial in my distances and dispersion of my irons.

I have a set of the Pro Forged/Black Golds myself 3-SW all irons. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to play them yet, but when i do I'll check back.

The ball flight will be a touch higher but with less spin. My opinion is that the dispersion is really tight with the Black Golds as well.

I also hit them really high. They produced LOTS of spin for me. I confirmed this during a fitting with Joe Kwok. Re-shafted with X-100 softstepped, spin rate and ball flight came down. I think BG's are not a good match for a high spin player with a swing speed on the higher end of the spectrum.

Ah yes, the Black Gold. A stepless shaft designed to compete with the Rifle and Project X lines. Then TT bought RP, which kind of left the shaft as an unwanted stepson!

 

I didn't really care for them, as they hit the ball too high compared to DG - same results as with the Rifles for me, so I guess if you like the Rifle line, you will like them.

 

Also, I see no point in frequency sorting without any kind of prior shaft alignment.

 

What TT really needs in my own, very humble opinion is a post-alignment frequency-tuned stepless shaft with the same ball flight as DG at around 100g weight. Now THAT would be a winner!

Have played mine for the past two years and love them. Can't say that I hit them to high, or have ever had my iron shots balloon on me. Have been very consistant and will more then likely put them into the new Wishon 555's when I order them for my bag next year.

I played two rounds with them and really don't like them, the ballflight is WAY to high for my liking.

I am a high ball player and I like them. At first, I thought the were hard to load, but I have gotten used to them, and I feel like my accuracy (both distance & left-right) is much better than with S300.

Ditto. Need to have slower tempo to load these shafts, but are really solid if you time it right. Ball flight is mid/high, but still very penetrating. I played them in Titleist 755's about a year ago but have since switched to Nippon 1150's.
