My winter project

I have been bored out of my skull the last few evenings and decided to embark on a project. Being a ho I decided that instead of just putting away my old gear I would revamp it. These are getting new shafts and GP decade grips (the baby blue ones). Let me know if you like the new look, I had wanted a satin finish for a while and finally decided to do it myself. First 2 are of a finished head, next 2 are of what they looked like before. These will give My Titleist's a run for their money as I hit them wonderfully last season.

Very nice. Is it just the pic or do they look bronze? I'm sure you'll get praise and questions so I'll be the first to ask, how'd you do it?

They are just plain old chrome heads that looked like hell.

I did this with Scotch bright scrubbing pads. I started with the heavy duty one, then went to the medium one, then used the fine one. Took about 20 minutes (per head) of pure elbow grease and patience. I wouldnt recommend it on anything but a blade as it would be way to hard to get the brush marks to go in the right directions.

Great work, the post above is correct, they actually don't look the the same clubs. I suppose it's a good way to get rid of bag chatter on forged irons.

can't tell from the pics, but did you do the hosels, too?? that is a night and day difference and in a great way.

 

Can you tell any weight difference? I imagine not very much but still curious...

 

How did you know to move from the heavy to the med to the light?

 

Were the strokes all the way across the blade all the time or did you do any of the short back and forth?

 

My Nike Forged are in the "scotchbrite crosshairs" well maybe after I try this on an old test blade :ok:

I did the whole head. Once you begin you quickly realize which way to go with the strokes. As for using the different grades of grit it was just common sense.

I dont see this changing the weight by anymore than a gram if that. I will know for sure when I pull the shafts tomorrow.

Nice work. I did that to a spare 690.MB 6 iron I had one time, and it takes a good amount of time to get it to look good like that. I don't think I could spend 160 minutes doing that to 8 clubs LOL.

I second that. I have a head I would like to do the same to. I tried using a cleaning pad we had around the house but it didnt seem to work.

Agreed with the above posters, GREAT job! Looks way better. My MP-32's (which I picked up used) could use this treatment for sure! Can you show us exactly how you did it and exactly what you used? That would be great!

Thats a nice refinish...i think a lot of us will attempt this now...for the guys saying how long it will take...i have until about March before the courses here open (Upstate NY), some of us will have time. I've been putting in the living room and fondling my clubs watching Tiger Week or anything golf.
