how many of you grip logo down? why do you like it thay way (i.e. do not like logos or like the minimal look

thinking about doing my grips that way

I have done previously, but only because I'm a perfectionist and would rather not see the logo than have it and 10th of a mm out of line!!

I hate reminders, look at the head make sure its square job done, dont need the grip logo to be there just another distraction i think. Plus when you put new grips on its quicker as you dont have to fiddle about as much trying to get everything lined up perfect

It would bother me knowing the logo was on the wrong side of the shaft. And what if you just happened to see it and it was obviously misplaced or crooked! Panic time!!

Put it where it belongs. You know where that is and so does the club.

This used to be a difficult decision for me.

 

On the one hand:

I don't consiously use the grip or anything on it for alignment or gripping aid at address.

I dislike the idea of advertising for free, regardless of whether it is a logo on my shirt, belt, hat, shoes, grip -- whatever.

The logo, etc, is a potential distraction whether aligned properly or not.

I don't want logos showing that are badly misaligned, so a bit of extra care is required on installation.

 

On the other hand:

I don't think I do, but it is possible that I might use the logo SUB-consiously as an alignment or gripping aid.

While a plain grip does not draw comments, an upside down grip does, and then you have to go through the rigmarole of explaining the pluses and minuses, with the end result being that folks think you are a bit weird, picky, or have an inflated opinion of your golfing capabilities.

On some grips, there is not an obvious alignment of the logo to be used consiously or subconsiously as an alignment aid.

You can't play golf and totally avoid being a signboard for various products anyway.

 

Lately, I just don't worry about all the above and slip 'em on logo up because that is how I learned to do it. And I don't worry if they are a degree or two off.

For some reason, it is more of a distraction to me when it is down. (?!?!?!) It just is. I grew up playing logo up som whenever the logo isn't there, it plays with my mind.

Whilst a round grip is precisely what it sounds like - round in cross section - a ribbed grip (aka a 'reminder' grip) has a slightly raised ridge running along the underside of it that can be felt in the fingers. Conventional wisdom has it fitted at 6 o'clock, but many players have quirks that have them placing the rib askew (e.g. Harrington apparently has the rib at something like 5 o'clock) so that it fits their grip better if they happen to be a little strong or weak with one or both hands.

 

Most grips are available in both varieties.

It makes no difference to me at all. It also does not twist me if the shaft logo is situated such that it would be visible. I've had a driver or two SST'd and the logo isn't always going to come out "down".

I've played with logo up and down on a variety of clubs... and can honestly say I have no preference one way or another.

I have been doing logo down for quite some time. And simply because i do my own grips and I got tired of wasting time getting the logo straight up and down the shaft. With the logo down and a round grip it doesn't matter!!! Besides that the tour guys do it so I wanted to be cool!!!!

I have a stereotype that grip logo and line are always on 12 o'clock position. So, I like to install grip logo down.

Always logo down. I put so much tape underneath the grip that the logo becomes deformed and looks less than savory. Plus, I like it that way.

Whatever works for you, but this is what I don't understand about logo down people. There are MILLIONS of things to look at as you address the ball other than the club head. You've got grass, the shaft, the logo on the ball, your glove, the tree, the sprinklet head, and on and on. How in the world is one little logo distracting?

I put them on logo down because it gives the grip a cleaner look at address and I don't have to try and get the grips on perfectly straight.

 

My grip of choice is Golf Pride Tour Velvet Full Cord.

 

Why are full cord grips impossible to find now? None of the pro shops I have been to have them. My local pro says he does not carry them because nobody likes full cord grips anymore. I don't understand why not, they are the ultimate in simplicity, feel, and control.

I have a tendency to like to set my grip according to the grip label. It's not really concious, I just kinda do it. I have a few that are a little off, and it can kinda bug me. Next time I regrip, I'm going down.

Well I was always picky about alignment and stuff but I had a club put together by Gsmith and they have a tendency to be crooked so logo down sounds good for me. I don't wanna grip them myself since I already paid for the clubvantage and they regrip for free anyways...they just have like a lazy eye or something. :man_in_love:

I hate to point this out to anyone who's OCD about their grips.... but the writing on the end cap is upside-down when you put them on logo down... :o
