advice for where to play/suggestions? or bag it!
hey folks,
anywhere from 4-12 of us will be in June downtown in Philadelphia... (loews hotel) for a conf. to play golf on sunday june 14th.

Suggestions on where to play that is not to bad to get to and money not a problem... I figure we'll rent a mini van or what have you if needed, and a few will have their cars with them.

http://www.golfphilly.com/ ??? <--- looks like only 14 day advance tee times, not going to cut it...
nj? http://www.coursetrends.com/golf/proto/ram...c/home/home.htm <--- bad reviews it seems?
public? http://www.pennsaukengolf.com/golf/proto/p...f/home/home.htm

Ideas or should we just bag it as it is a mess to try to play in that area???

Thanks, peter.

Pennsauken is a fun, short course. Thye have some tough holes like the 445 up hill par 4 5th and the 250 yard downhill par 3 8th. It is my home course for high school. Ramblewood is TERRIBLE as is Walnut Lane! Do not consider it at all..not even last choice. It stinks you will not be there on monday though. There is a course called Pine Hill which is Private - only on the weekends though. It is a mile from Pine Valley and is one hell of a course. You could call Pine Hill and explain your situation, they might let you on if they are not booked. Nice people that work there so it is worth a shot. If you are only here one day I suggest you either Play Glen Mills outside of Philly towards King of Prussia or come over to Jersey side and play a course called Scotland Run. Both are two AWESOME tracks.

Any questions feel free to ask.

I agree on Glen Mills. It is south on 95 and an easy drive, about 30 minutes from center city. And, Makefield Highlands is north on 95 about 30 minutes. Those are two very nice courses on the Phila side of the river.

Scotland Run is good too and about 45 more or less depending on traffic and how well you know NJ.

I agree with the Glen Mills and Scotland Run choices, both excellent courses. If you guys really wanted to treat yourself and can do a bit of a drive. About 1.5 hours south on I-95 is Bulle Rock. The ladies LPGA should have just finished there the week before, so the course should be near tournament shape. It is one of the finest courses on the East Coast, and well worth the money $150 approx. a round. Just my .02 worth.

I'll second (or third or fourth or whatever it is at this point) the Glen Mills nod.

I live 5 minutes from there and play it all the time and it never gets old.

If not Glen Mills, then I'd also have to go with the Pine Hill suggestion. It'd be slightly easier to get to from downtown Philly. It is, in my opinion, one of the hardest courses I've ever played, but certainly worth a go. Given the current economic situation, they'd have a hard time turning down a weekend group at $100/player. Give it a shot and let me know if you have any questions.
