Opinions on Slighter Tacoma putters

I'm thinking about getting a custom slighter, wondered what you guys that have them think of them. Say, compared to a Scotty.

I really like my Slighter SEATTLE (not a Tacoma) prototype for Blade Golf putter, very solid and well made. I see it being in my bag for awhile. I have used and still own a Scotty Newport Gun Blue putter and an old Ping Anser 85029 putter, both very good putters. Right now, I'm just in tune better with the Slighter.

Now THIS is a Slighter for Blade Golf Tacoma Prototype. The other guy's is a Seattle that I tried to purchase, but he thought better of selling.

I love my Slighters, both of them. I have this proto, a Kirkland with the floating face, and a Tacoma Custom on the way. Feelwise, I would rate them up with Camerons stuff. My favorite Cammie is my 34"/ 340 Gram Newport Beach and if my proto had a floating face, I would venture to say it would be a very close relative in the feel department. My Kirkland feels a little more crisp than my Tacoma, due to the slot. Both are 350 grams and 34" length. The milling is gorgeous and the finish is second to none. In my dealing with Tom on my new Tacoma, I cannot say enough good about the man. He has gone to every length to make sure that what I receive is exactly what I am expecting, only more.

You won't go wrong if you choose this route, IMHO.

I've known Tom for a while now. He's never made a bad putter for me. My clubmaker owns a Tacoma. He gave up his Carbites and his Scotty's for his putter. I even gave up two Scottys for my Slighter Kent.

I know this might be a silly question.....but is the Tacoma similar to the Newport 2?

 

Im interested in a Slighter, and want the same basic desgin as the Newport 2.

Slighters are definatly top quality, up there with camerons. If I had the money I would get one over a cameron. And i have met Tom Slighter in person and been to his shop. That guy is top quality, and just one of thoes guys that you want to be best friends with.

I believe the Scotty Newport 2 and the Slighter Tacoma or even the Seattle (which I believe is like the Tacoma w/out the sound slot) have the same basic design. The Slighters have a thinner profile/look and after the initial adjustment, I actually now prefer this look and I find the Newport 2 and the Ping Anser 2 a little bulky. Here are some photos of my Slighter Seattle and a 1997 Newport 2 gun blue which I believe is thinner than today's Newport 2s.

I have a Tacoma and it is the best Anser style putter that I have owned. I bought it used last year, it is a 2003 and looks slightly different than the current models. The bumpers on the back are thinner, it is 330 grams and made from 303 SS, length is 34".

 

I have owned several Camerons and loved them both (Pro Platinum Mid Slant, SS Newport 2.5) but the Slighter feels better than either of those.

wow...you guys got me really interested in Slighter now! Anyone know if Tom makes a model like the SC Newport with the softer, rounder bumpers? Also, he do a finish to his putters like the Pro Platinum series? Finally. whats the difference between 303 SSS and carbon steel, for example, terms of feel...which is softer and such...

I own 2 Tacoma's and a 3rd one is being made. As comparing it to a SC putter, let's just say you are getting a custom hand-made putter for just a tad higher price than a Cammy which is mass produced. Need I say more in terms of value or craftsmanship? As for performance, I feel that the Tacoma outperforms my old Newport in everyway: better roll, sound, feel & more importantly...fewer putts per round. Slighter is highly recommended in my book!!!

The Tacoma is very similar to the Newport with softer & rounder looking bumpers. Also, his non-glare finish is comparable to the Pro Platinum Series.

 

Carbon steel to many has a softer feel than 303 SSS. If you personally want to experience the feel & sound difference between the two, go to a golf shop that sell used clubs and test putters made by TP Mills (Carbon Steel) & Cameron (303 SSS)
