Will They Ever Make A 500cc Driver Or Is 460 The Limit Forever?

any opinions?

players are already bombing it 330 yards and the courses are only 7200 they would have to make teh courses alot longer if they raised the cc volume? any other opinions

I have seen drivers up to 650 cc's but they are not conforming for a legal round. By, the way, have you ever seen the 650cc drivers?? It looks like a stew pot on a stick!! I don't think the rules will change on this one. The advances in the golf ball have been so great the last few years that this can not be compromised or before long everyone will hit the ball 350 yards. I think the advances in distance need to stop where they are. If manufaturers want to improve equipment, work on forgiveness and workability. I also hope course designers will not try to lengthen the courses anymore. Just make the greens and ruff a b**** and the long drivers like myself will have to work harder on chipping and putting. Thats just my opinion.

I wouldn't like them to make anything bigger than 460 legal. I have a 905T and i think that that is 405cc and it is big enough for me. I vote no they should keep the rules. Also what if they make the clubhead bigger. It will make the ball travel further and it may not be long before 8000 or 9000+ yard courses are the norm.

agree, the limit is set and will never change for competition. also, the size of the driver isn't what lets them bomb it as far as they do, the size just allows for forgiveness and distance on mishits. all legal drivers have to maintain the same c.o.r. which is where the distance is. also, the golf ball is where the distance is going to come from now.

huge heads don't equal more distance. many long drive champs use small headed clubs because they give less drag through the air when swung meaning they can gain clubhead speed and that leads to extra yards. when a driver gets bigger (the face) it just makes it easier to hit. if you always hit the middle of the face then what's the point in buying the likes of the Cobra Speed series (unless you just want one of course) because all that material is going to waste becuase you aren't going to hit it. i think 460cc is too big now.

does anyone remember in 2003 when 400cc drivers were coming out and they looked rediculous. i bet some people were driving great before super oversized heads came out but suck now with the new equipment.

that is the farthest thing from legal lol... im curious to see where the golf industry will focus its attention in 5 years if they cant sell the bigger head drivers, i think the shaft companies will take over more with advancements such as rombax re ax which prevents the shaft from loosing speed from the top to bottom. or maybe a putter which uses 7 balls to line it up lol

I think it will remain at 460. I think we will start seeing variations in the design of the 460. I project more of what Nike and Cleveland are doing (making the head wider).

I personnally think that 400cc is a big enough head on a driver. I believ the USGA and the RA will not waiver on the club head limitation that is in place.
