Need a ball change...

JeffJ

Recommended Posts

I have played the ProV1X for a couple years and as of late it ProV seems to stand for ProVisional. My swing speed is between 105-110 depending on if I really go after it. I have a high to very high ball flight.

What I want:

-Lower ball flight

-medium high to high feel around the green

-straighter ball

-durability of ProV1X or better

What I dont want:

-real spinny ball

-ball that will promote higher ball flight

-dont need more distance

Any ideas? Thanks.

My last measured swing speed is 95, and I just recently started playing the Bridgestone B330-RX balls. They seem to fit the profile you are looking for. I bought them as a trial replacement for the Bridgestone e5+ that I had been playing the last year, and they are an upgrade. They don't fly quite as high as the e5's, but they do have a more penetrating ball flight.

The Bridgestone B330 might also be worth a trial. The B330-S is similar, but probably have more spin than you are looking for.

My first thought was why even bother seems like your playing the ball that you are asking for but then I read the TP Red recommendation and thought you know what that's not a bad ball to try. It is lower in flight and has less spin as requested but has a decent touch around the green. I would have to +1 the TP Red ball.

My VERY BRIEF time with the Pro V1X and B330, seems to indicate that for my swing speed and occasionally loose swing, the B330 seems to have a little less spin, and less objectionable misses. My swing speed in in your range. Again, I have only played one round, swapping balls.

BTW, if you want to try lots of balls, check out the sampler packs at lostgolfballs.com. $35 for a dozen premiums, and they were in excellent condition.

jeffj well you and I are about the same speed and the same problem. I went and got fitted. the top 3 balls based on dispersion and spin were the nike tour d, the callaway ix and the prov1x 09.

So I play the v1x. I hated the callaway, it sucks around the green, and it feels light. I won't play anything nike, so I am stuck with the v1x.

Can I ask why you wouldnt play anything Nike?

Ive never used there equipment either only tested a 5000 SQ, but I wouldnt say that I will never purchase any equipment from any other manufactures...their stuff seems ok to me!

130r, This is going to sound dumb, but it goes back to some human rights sweat shop things I thought were bad of nike. Then when they got into the golf industry, they did a great job of marketing, but not really in fitting or scoring. I get the idea that they sell golf like they sell their shoes, they make just good enough of a product but advertise it like only the cool people would play nike. I know nike is known for distance clubs, but scoring is not their thing. Scoring is golf and any serious golf company would know this.

This is also why I think younger players like nike. It's all about distance and looking cool, not about scoring. Just look at nikes putters. Nike gets engineers to make the balls go longer, the drivers to go further, stites to make the irons, and the scoring clubs are just kind of hacked together.

Ditto...

i was going to suggest the One Tour D, which is a tremendous ball, sounds exactly like what he is asking for, but also sounds like he wouldn't even give it a shot. Don't be so closed minded, I can assure you that the cup doesn't give a crap what is stamped on your equipment

I was just curious as to your reasons, but that sounds fair enough to me; I can definately understand your stance against using Nike equipment

I've tried them all and will say that each premium ball on the market certainly has it's respective merits. Having said that, I always find myself going back to the Pro V1x. For ME, it's the most consistent ball in the short game, where it really matters. I know for a fact how the ball will react when I hit a pitch or a chip with it...no surprises like a quick check or no check at all.

This is a REALLY good point...i was at the local pro shop the other day just looking around and saw the Nike Ignite putter...wow...looks like a piece of SCRAP METAL! HORRIBLE appearance (sorry if you have one) i just dont know how one would be confident with that club in their hands..

Plus i always found it funny that Nike Golf was founded on a player (TW) not its quality of equipment..think about it, before Tiger came on the scene would anyone even give a though to anything Nike Golf related?

sorry for the off-topic rant :)

Your reason for not playing Nike is far from dumb. In fact, I respect your willingness to take such a stand. However, and without trying to dissuade you, I think that it is only fair to point out that other athletic apparel manufacturers are guilty of the same behavior.

When I was in college, I studied the Nike sweatshop allegations as part of a business ethics course. While the allegations were true, what was an even more astonishing revelation was that the same contract manufacturers producing the Nike shoes ran parallel manufacturing lines in the same factory for several of the other major shoe companies. In fact Adidas, the parent company of Taylormade, has been criticized in the worldwide media at least as heavily as Nike has been criticized in the US media (just run a search for "Adidas Shoes Sweatshop"). As for any of the other manufacturers, I have no idea to what extent they may or may not use sweatshops.

Edited to add: I apologize for this being off topic.
