I almost bought one like 2 years after they came out. Edwin Watts had them on the discount pages in the catalog for like $20. I'd never hit the thing, but its a cool item to have none the less.

John Daly used driver- 0 iron to hit Baltusrol's 650 yard par five at the PGA Championship in ?1995?

17th at Baltusrol in 1993 US Open. It was actually 630ish yards and Sandy Lyle actually pulled off the 'in two' feat beforehand, reaching the green with a 300 yard 3 wood, but didn't hold the green. Daly pulled it off with a rather lucky 305 yard 1-iron a day later, almost going through the green. Happy days.

I remember them, and a friend had a Firestick-shafted RM Midsize one at one point. To be honest, he's probably still got it gathering dust somewhere since it only stayed in his bag for ten minutes - a bit like his Killer Whale driver.

They were actually quite hittable, at least as far as I was concerned, albeit it's not the club of choice if you need a high floater into a par 5 over a pond. From a tee or any sort of decent lie in the fairway it was hittable and I could get a decent flight with it, but it was a bit of a one trick pony for me and not really much use other than off a tee or a knocked up bit of turf. It was very much a sort of 3 wood replacement, but not as versatile and without a high, cutty floater in the arsenal. For any sort of approach it was hard to hit any sort of shot that didn't have 20 yards of run on it when it hit the green. Unless you're a red hot long iron man and hit the ball really high naturally, it's not much extra use compared to a regular 1 or 2 iron. If you play a links course it could be a useful tool from the tee though. And probably a very cheap one too; the things were on sale in the bargain barrel within a few months of being launched. They're probably worth about ten bob now.

Incidentally, that year's US Open was the one one where Sandy made his memorable 'I hit it twice as far as John Daly..' quote. Quite witty for Sandy, and almost as funny as his 'Tiger Woods? I don't think I've played there' line at Riviera the previous year.

Does anyone currently have a Wilson Staff Zero Iron they are looking to sell?

I have a never used Wilson 0 zero iron, from a private collection with a neat backstory. It's in amazing condition. I wondered what it would be like to play with, but never tried it for obvious reasons...it's immaculate. EMail [email protected]. thanks!

Remember watching Daly hit it at the Kemper Open that year. It was all the rage for a few weeks.

Haha...well to be fair, I was bored and doing some googling when I found this same guy making posts looking for one in a few places. He even commented on a Youtube video. So I figured why not join and try to get in touch with him. I'm not a Nigerian prince lol...At best I'm just a regular scratch golfer who liked to collect oddities. I used to be a regular on the sand trap forum, but haven't frequented any of the forums in ages. I was a big Daly fan back in the day (he was quite a character) and had the chance to get one from a Wilson Exec's collection, so I jumped on it. This one is NOS, never retailed, but one of a few held aside for John. I think they're almost all gone...not many were out there to begin with, and I bet most were forgotten, than tossed, or fell victim to "trade and save" sales at golf shops and are also long gone.

Even today, it's a neat piece. I still get "they made a Zero?? that can't be for real" among those that never seen it. It does look bizzare to see a "0" on an iron haha.

I dont golf as much, and I stopped collecting now...other things occupy time.
