TM TP RED vs Nike One Tour

which do you prefer, both have awesome deals!
most people already know that they tm tp red is buy 2 dozen for 55 and the nike one tour is buy 2 dozen for 60. i work at a golf shop and get an additional discount so i can basically get a dozen of premium balls for less than 25bucks. my question is what do you prefer in terms of spin, durability, and value. considering that buying these balls for almost half the original price is amazing so im just seeing what in your opinions are the best value. thanks. also i can get the titleist pro v1 practice balls for like 27.50 a dozen how do these compare?

I've bought both on those great deals. Both are excellent balls with good spin on the green, but I prefer the Nike Platinum for feel and the spin.

The Taylor Made Red, does everything that a ball needs to, but spin like a Nike One tour. I like the trajectory, the sound, the feel of the ball. I like the Nike One's one hop and stop with a wedge. I am a pitcher of the ball, I never chip it. Since I bought my first 60 degree wedge, I have not used any club around the green but a "60". And that has been 19 years ago.

Maybe the new Taylor Made ball that I have read about on here, that is going to be a 5 "piecer" will be the perfect ball.

I personally am glad to see the comeback of the "v" groove. When I was in my 20's, if you played the ball as you were supposed too. AND by that I mean you dont waller it around anywhere. Then it took some skill, and practice to get up and down from the rough. It separated the people playing, into have and have nots. With the MD grooved, spin milled, Ping's square grooves, whatever brand name you want to call or use, then skill is not half as important.

Just a rant, sorry about that. And yes I play with the Oil Can spin mills. I dont think the oil cans spin as much as the tour chrome, or the blackNi ones.

One final note, I was taught over 25 years ago, to hit the ball past the flag with a balata ball. If you played a top-flite back then. You were supposed to play for a release.

Have played both in the recent weeks.

For some reason I just bombed the One Tour. Probably 10-15 yds past the TP Red on drives and at least 5 yds on the irons, but that's just my swing - could be different with you. Right now I am playing the TP Red, mainly b/c I ran out of the One Tours, but I also got them for 2 for 55.

As for spin - couldn't really tell as I'm not a very high spin player, but if I had to pick I would say that the Nike checked up better.

But, the TP Red keeps me closer to my most comfortable distances.

Only played the 2 ball pack of the Tour D but it was longer, straighter, slightly firmer and explosive of the driver. All of this comes with less spin as well. I like that fact that I did not rip back the One Tour D as I do with the One Tour but then I am limiting the shots that I can play around the green. One Tour D seemed to have stop and release spin with the ball being 5-10 feet from the pitch spot. I'll deal with a few yard loss, and more spin off the woods to play a ball that I can hop and stop and also rip back if need be. Very creative shots can be played with the One Tour but the D was impressive off the driver. Guess it depends on your particular game plan.

I have not played the new Nike 1 balls, but thus far the TP Red is the best ball I have played.

Better than Nike 1 black or platinum, B-330 s or regular, Pro v1 or x.

I have not played enough with the Cally i or ix to compare, and likely won't at the price difference.

I have a 105-110 ss, low spin, med launch angle with driver, an d~ 150 w/ 8i. The TP red bombs off the tee with great roll out, and side to side dispersion is excellent.

Performance off the irons is very predictable, usually a hop and stop, or minimal release on faster greens. It's not much of a big time back it up ball for me, which is good.

Off the wedges, it doesn't bite as much as some, but it's predictable & consistent.

^Yes, thats the reason I like it to.

But the poster above is saying the Nike One Tour is actually longer than the TP Red and also spins more on the green, which if true, is a great combo.  I've tried the Pro V1 and that ball just spins way too much for me.  It even spins back on some driver shots I've had (landing in very damp fairways).  The Pro V1x is also very good, but I feel is a little shorter than the TP Red, but has the same spins on greens as the red (hop and stop) which is why I go with TP Red over Pro V1x most times.

I'm very intrigued in trying the One Tour though.

The Nike One tour is longer off the tee for me than a TM or a Cally IX because my current driver is almost too low spin, and the One tour gives me the little extra spin I need. It's all about ideal launch conditions. The One tour launches closer to ideal for me than lower spin balls. Every swing is different, and every ball fits people differently

i love the nike one tour manly beacuse of the shots around the green the tp red is great all round ball bu the greens at my home course are hard and fast and i like the more spin of the one tour

ps. do you guys think there is some thing wrong with the ball landing then releasing about 7 foot from pitch mark with a maxfli rev solid on 10.5 stimp greens they are pretty firm don't leave pitch marks to often actually kinda like concrete i know i am striking the ball fine cause i have very consistent yardage's

First off, TP Red and Nike One Tour are both great balls. I just started playing the Nike One Tour this year (as well as the NOP - got a good deal on both). As one of the previous posters mentioned, I like the extra spin of the Nike balls as the greens on my course barely leave a ball mark they're so firm. The Tour is definitely longer than the NOP, spins almost as much, and gives you a little larger margin for error with the driver. That said, if you're looking to lower your trajectory a bit I'd give the TP Red a try. I'd rate them as follows:

Trajectory:

NOP Highest
One Tour Mid
TP Red Lowest

Distance:

NOP Shortest (Hit a few drives with these that I thought I cranked only to discover it was 20 yds shorter that I thought it was)
TP Red Longer
One Tour Longest (I think I need a hair less spin off the driver than the NOP offers, but a little more than the Red and have hit the my longest drives of the year with this ball)

Short Iron Spin:

NOP Highest (Only ball better around the greens is a balata)
One Tour Mid (Almost as good as the NOP)
TP Red Lowest (but still good)

I can't comment on putter feel as I'm still gaming an XG#9 (Betti is still getting broken in).

For me I've got to pick the Nike Tour ahead of the TP Red as for me it provides the optimal combination of length/control. Another ball worth looking at (and I've seen them bogoed this year) is the Srixon Z Star.

i have the same home course lol notice the comment about hard greens not leaving many ball marks do you find your ball rolls out about 6 7 feet after it hits the green using say a 7 iron unless maybe you use premium balls i am junior buy the way name i play every day so i am sure i will see you out there some time

You might see me out there. I usually play Monday afternoons and any other time i can get out. As to the firmness of the greens, most of my normal shots release unless I can hit it high or am hitting into a breeze (#5 for example).

I know everyone grumbles about #16 green (especially a pin on the front left corner), but about 2 weeks ago I hit a shot with 8i in off a down hill lie (ball just in the right rough) that came in like it had a parachute 6' right of the flag pin high (pin middle left). It bounced off the green and ended up underneath the spruce trees at the back left of the green. I couldn't believe it!

I tried some of the TP Reds last year and just this week went back to the left overs as a break from playing the Nike One Tours (I'm about 1/2 way through 2 dozen of those). I like the TP Reds, but they are worth about $3 less/dozen than the Nike's because they are just a tad shorter and have a tad less spin (for me).

Pro V practice balls are supposed to be only cosmetically different from retail Pro Vs. The only thing you can know for sure is that something was wrong with them. If I'm going to buy discounted Pro Vs with something wrong wth them, I'll buy logo over runs. The ones I got last fall had big ugly black dots over the logos, but this worked out perfect because the dumb things were easier to spot in the rough. Who knew?
