Ugliest stuff on tour!

I know the tour players have the absolute best of equipment, this site is dedicated to it after all. But sometimes some of the ugliest gear gets the job done for the tour guys. The set of Cleveland VAS irons Corey Paven used to win the US OPEN in 95 with for example. There probably isn't too much of this stuff out there but lets here about it.

I would have to put forth Taylor Made's Super Steel line in 2000-2001. I know it probably wasn't a tour thing, but I do remember a few of the fairway woods finding their way into player's bags.

Browning 880 irons and all the land of the giants tungsten ti irons from Tommy Armour and Callaway. The callway tungsten-ti irons were great fun to hit off the mats at dusk/night. Nothing but bright sparks from the dirt/sand interacting with the ti soles

Anything worn by John Daly, Duffy Waldorf or Woody Austin. Sergios Banana pants are close. As far as clubs Pavin's Cleveland sticks are right up there along with most of the oversized mallets that are used to putt these days. The spider, Ping uglee, most Odyssey putters, and of course the Futura. Th Ping Doc putters have to be the all time worst though.

It seems like many of the OEMs think that the louder the better.

TM makes great irons, but why on earth do they need all that nonsense in the cavity. Nike was also recently using the same awful Pittsburgh Steelers colors that TM used on the r7 irons.

I applaud Mizuno and Muira, they seem to understand what an iron should look like.

Daly acts like a clown, and I guess he likes to dress like one too.

Ryan Moore's "look" is probably a close (and very ugly) second.

I think ryan moore is the worst dressed player on tour, his shoes are horrible the painter hat is lame IMO and normally his style looks like he is 8 years old

i agree with everything in this post with the exception of the Odyssey putters. some of those huge mallet putters are just horrible looking imo. then again, i use an [i]FT-i[/i] and lots of people hate the way they look. so who am i to judge?

The Ping stuff can grow on you though.

I am a huge Ping fan, and I was not at all crazy about the original Rapture OR the i5 irons. But after a while they don't look so bad. They will never be Muiras, but they are much easier to hit.

Not "in love" with the look of the new Ping stuff, but I am willing to give it a shot and see how it performs.

The fact is, that even though it may not be the best-looking stuff out there, the Ping guys know how to make clubs that perform.

Callaway clubs have a history of being butt ugly, but the absolute champion in "ugliest club" HAS to go to the Ping i3 and TiSi woods.
