New 3 wood........

Recommended Posts

Hi.......

Looking for a new 3wood, got a v-steel 15* with a prolite fairway stiff shaft, hitting it about 250.

But I`m hitting my BenHogan cft hybrid 19* the same distance.

so I thinking of getting either a Callaway x-tour 13* Fujikura tp 26.3, tried it at a demo day and like it..

Or..

some kind of Sonartec, but have never tried one, and they are kind of rare here in Denmark(Europe)..

any body know if there is a diffrence in the 13* or 14* Sonartec Np99 aldila nv 75 stiff...

Maybe some one has a advise what to get....???

Cheers

One thing you didn't mention was control. 3 woods are as much about control as they are distance. Given that criteria, check out the reviews on here for each of the woods you mentioned. My experience with each has been that the X Tour 13* is the easiest to hit off the deck and tee and seems to be the straightest The sonartecs are the best feeling woods out there PERIOD! Very solid and consistent.

The longest 3 I have ever played is the Cally Big Berta Fusion 13*. It's the 3 that matches the FT-3 driver.

Hope that helps.

The TEE Exotics is expensive but, worth every penny IMHO. It is VERY long and also very straight. It's easy to hit from the tee or fairway. If your looking to spend less, I suggest the Callway X fairway woods. They are also long and straight from both.

Another vote for the TEE...you definitely won't be hitting this as far as your hybrid...

Mabye you could try a lower lofted CFT? There is no rule that says you have to have a 3 wood.

I may be the lone vote for this, but I just picked up a Titleist PT 15* and I am in love with it. I have a steel shaft in it and feel like I can hit it down the tightest fairway. Plus I only gave $50 for it, so I really love it.

I switched from a PT 13* to a T-60 13* and I don't regret it. New technology is hard to beat.

Hey......

Thanks for all the answers........

I dont what I`ll going to do yet,, but dont yhink that there is much differens in a 17* vs 19* cft hybrid,,

Im not really into the Mizuno`s and Nike`s, and the exotics cost close to 480 $ here in Denmark..

I´m a 4 hcp and hit the ball high enough, so I dont think hitting a 13* wood from fairways is a problem..

I`m think I`ll go for the x-tour 13*, tried it and it worked ok on the range...

But maybe some one can tell me about the lofts on the sonartec, are they played stronger then the loft says, so if I`m getting one, then 14* would be enough...

Cheers

I tried them all and ended up with the Sonartec NP99. Wow, what a great fairway wood! You are right about the launch angles of the Sonartecs too. I went from a 14 degree to a 17 degree for my 3 wood. They launch around 2 or 3 degrees lower than most of the other woods on the market, but you cant beat that soft feeling at impact and watching the ball go forever!
