Take a seat Scratch fans.... I hit these two side by side a couple of days a go. Everyone that was there came up with the same conclusion.

The AF302's are miles ahead of the AR-1's

They are an original design, not a catalog blank.

They look better

They feel better on flushed and mis hit shots.

They are more forgiving

They just have more technology. Forged by the (arguably) finest forging house on the Planet.

And that's just the way it is.
[/quote]

Thats what I wanted to hear, I'm going to go with the AF302's! Already own a set of ar-1s, no need
for 2 sets of them!

Epon is going to cost me more money...again! The satin finish looks perfect on those irons.

Here are some photo's I took this morning, not the best but I had no natural lighting. Note the subtle leading edge grind. As a clubfitter I was very impressed to see the target weight of each head as well as the actual weight, this makes it much easier to calculate your swingweight when assembling not to mention the fact that their quality control is obviously top notch.

Would you consider going to the 502's

yea they are a good looking iron, but if i made a change from 501 it would be to the 302, but anyone else may know more about the comparisons from the 501 to 502

Maybe the pictures are decieving but the topline is not thick, in fact it's thinner than my Srixon I302's and about the same as my buddies MP 62's

First impressions - They look fabulous at address. It is virtually impossible to tell them apart from the AF Tours. In fact, it is probably the reason that I upgraded. I just love this look! The sole of the AF-302 is several millimeters wider than that of the AF-301. More weight down low means a slightly lower CG. It's supposedly easier to hit and more forgiving than its predecessor. We'll see.

It's also supposed to feel better than the 301. Now there's a tough ask. Outside of a couple of Mizuno blades, I'm of the opinion that the AF-301 is the pinnacle, the softest feeling of the traditional, one-piece forged irons available on the market today. I relish the thought.

I'm less crazy about the design of of the cavity. The 301 was perfection. Simple, elegant, even slightly understated. The 302's cavity is a busy affair with the indentations towards the heel and toe detracting from the harmony of the 301's design. And while I'm at it, there's word that the 302 is less workable than the 301. It didn't feel that way hitting the demos back to back. We'll have to wait and see.

I am not a "prude" when it comes to spending money on equipment, but man, over $1,300 for a set of 6 irons (5-p)is hard to swallow, especially when I would also need to spend on adding the 4 iron, which would be another $200+.

If it was the last set I would ever buy (or at least the last set I would buy this year), maybe, but as it is, it makes Mizuno look like a steal (I know QC is not the same, but I can still send them to Joey for far less).

never thought I'd be excited for 50 gegree weather but it's supposed to be warmer Saturday and I will get to hit my 302's for the first time. I'll give my mini review after that.

GO COLTS!!

Played 54-holes with my 302s so far and what can I say? I'm very impressed.

First off, these things feel way softer than the AF301s at impact. I didn't think it was possible, but Epon's gone and done it. They're very easy to hit too. Easier than the 301s so chalk up another positive in this regard. Contrary to some accounts, I don't think they lost too much workability to their predecessors in the process; I managed to hook a 9-iron around some trees after getting myself into trouble but will keep my mind open until I've had more time with them.

The only con is that I really like the cosmetics of the 301's cavity better than the 302. It's busier and this detracts from the overall aesthetic. But considering the improvements in the other areas, particularly the visuals at address, I'll gladly take the AF302s. No regrets about making the switch.

These are pics of the 7-iron

playability, I finally got to hit mine yesterday and my initial impressions are very good. The conditons were a very soggy 50 so I really thought I would have a difficult time catching the ball clean but I think the sole design of being a bit wider and flatter really helped as well as the leading edge grind.
As far as feel goes I have hit most every premium club there is and the feel of the AF 3202's were as good as or better than anyting I have ever hit. Even though I only hit a couple really pure I can tell these are the real deal.
Distance and ballflight were very good, these fly just a little higher than my srixon I302's with the exact same shaft but I really needed some height so I think this will be a plus for ny game.
