It is time to buy!!

I am getting rid on my 983K and looking for something more forgiving and longer. What are your top 2 recommendations for drivers and why?

just kidding, if you really like the K, i thought the closest thing to it was a 905R.

#2) Taylormade R5 TP

The two best drivers on the market for ME right now are:

 

1. Nike SQ TOUR

2. Cleveland HiBore

 

High launch and low spin = more distance

if you currently have a 983K, i would stay away from those odd looking drivers on the market--SQ and Hibore--and stick with a more normal looking club--905R.

However, if I was getting a new big stick, I'd go with...

1) 905R

2)Hibore

3)FT3 Tour

4)SQ Tour

5)R7425

 

make sure you get the right shaft in it, no matter what club you pick up!!

905R or FT-3 but make sure you get a Diamana Red shaft in it you will not be disappointed!!!

If you are looking for a 983K upgrade, go with a Bridgestone J33R 460. Similar shape to the K and very long. You may need to go up in loft from your current club because the B'stone is a pretty low spin head ( a good thing with the right loft).

 

The 905R looks great and is pretty forgiving, but it has VERY VERY high spin and you will lose distance unless you have a VERY shallow attack into the ball.

905R is the best and hottest driver ive hit and i had a 983k that i loved. I hit this much farther and they look alot alike as hard as that may be to believe they truly do. I have a nvs shaft in mine to get the ball up a little higher as this thing loves to be hit high! higher i hit it farther it goes seems like but never balloons just goes where i hit it to no higher nor lower. great club

I think it depends on what you like. If you're conservative and want something that looks familiar, then I agree with the majority, the 905R is your club.

 

If you're looking for major advancements of technology in your driver, then the latest thinking in driver design lies in the Sasquatch and Hi-Bore.

 

If ease of use is your priority, the G5 is hard to beat. It's just the easiest thing to hit, ever.

Launcher Comp is really easy to hit straight and long and the price is right, it plays high though so if you try one you might want a lower loft than your 983K. I haven't hit some of the newer offerings but I also love the Ping G2 for the same reasons, maybe a little longer than my Comp. As good as the G2 is if I was testing right now I'd have to try the G5 as well.

I noticed a lot of people saying the G5 is the longest out there. Is it because of the longer standard shaft (45.75") or are you guys playing at normal standard length (45")? I was interested in purchasing one but don't want to go longer than 45".

R7 460cc. Simply the longest and hottest cannon I've ever tested. WArning - it does setup closed somewhat.

 

FT3 - Probably the HOTTEST driver I've found. It is very sensitive to shaft/loft/draw/fade/neutral bias. Make sure you are properly fitted.

I just picked up a G5 yesterday after hitting at a couple of demo days. This thing is sweet!

I didn't even notice the extra shaft length until I saw it on the fitting sheet...I did notice the extra length in my drives though! All this thing wants to do is go straight - Try before you buy, the length may not bother you.

The two drivers that provide the best combination of distance, trajectory and forgiveness for me are the:

 

TM R5TP, 10.5*, S Diamana 63

 

Ft-3 Tour, 10.5*, Speeder 550 S.

 

Others excellent combinations that I've tried include the 905R/V2 and Hi-Bore/V2.

My choices in order of performance are:

 

1. Cleveland HiBore

2. Nike SQ Max

3. Callaway FT3

 

HiBore

Higher launch than the others. Very straight hitting. You can actually work this driver, but it will be harder to get the big draws and fades. This works out for me, because now I feel that I can hit draws with better control without worrying about it turning into a hook. The HiBore just doesn’t want to go there. Best distance of any driver that I have hit by a wide margin. Amazing carry with good roll. Very forgiving. This driver works better for me than others and it might have something to do with the fact that I always have teed my ball lower than most.

 

SQ Max

Very forgiving. Lower launch than HiBore. This did cost me some distance, but still long. Easy to hit straight, but surprisingly easy to work either way. I’m not sure, but possibly more forgiving than the HiBore, but they are both stupid easy to hit. I play this club in a 10.5 degree with a NVS 75. Its in the travel bag.

 

FT-3

A little less forgiving than the other two, but still easy to hit. This is a long driver. For me, longer than the SQ. This one wants to go straight. I traded this one in for a SQ. If Callaway incorporates some of the technology from the above two drivers, that driver will floor the competition.

 

 

To me,the 905 R is Ok but nothing special. The G5 is a better G2 and a good value. A little flatter hitting than the G2 and forgiving, but lacks the technology of my top 3.

 

There are a lot of very good drivers on the market right now!
