The black bag in my earlier photos is a little unique. It has a waxed canvas main body, but the pocket-top and base are all leather. 
 

I do also have a full-leather single pocket Mackenzie, and it works just fine in the Pelican case… just a little thicker overall, once the top ring and base are folded in, flat.

The broken divider seems like misuse? His bag does look kind of wonky at the bottom part? Debating between the canvas and leather and wondering is this just a one off (he said he didn't want to send back) or is these issues common with waxed canvas? 

The Twisting has been plaguing me for a bit with my 1 pocket 7 inch ballistic nylon, but I think I have figured it out.  I never had the issue with the 8 inch bags I have had.  But with the 7 inch you can get some club tangle that prevents the clubs from making it all the way down to the bottom of the bag.  Then the weight of the one pocket (and for me the rangefinder pocket) will twist the bottom cause there is essentially empty space inside at the bottom of the bag.  I've since untwisted and repositioned the clubs so they are all fully down and that structure has kept the twisting from occurring again.

Any recommendations for a nice smallish towel that pairs well with the minimalism of a Mac bag?

Yup. I’ll never understand why most modern golf towels have gotten so big… here’s what I think are the best quality and perfectly sized towels to work with a Mac bag:

Seamus Golf did a run of these with their logo a few years ago, and it’s perfect. That link is the exact (marled black colour) they used. It’s 100% cotton and 20” x 30”, but will shrink a little after a few washings (prob an inch or two in length and width).

FYI, the leather Mackenzies from 2nd Swing have been reduced to $449 on their site. Was less than $500 with sales tax. 

 

Did I buy one? Obviously. 

 

I’ll pick it up this week since I’m in Minneapolis and I certainly don’t need another bag delivered to my house as that will raise more questions than what it is worth.

THANKS FOR THIS INFO!!! I just purchased one a few minutes ago. Ever since I bought the Penfold canvas bag I knew I'd wind up buying a Mac. This purchase is probably going to make me want to order a custom one next time.

Thanks! That size/quality looks perfect! Think I may add a grommet to the corner and clip it on.
