What does everyone think about this video and the "twisting" that he mentions being a problem?

The broken divider seems like misuse? His bag does look kind of wonky at the bottom part? Debating between the canvas and leather and wondering is this just a one off (he said he didn't want to send back) or is these issues common with waxed canvas?

I've had one for about 2 years -- I haven't had any twisting problems. My bag is nylon and travelled extensively with it.

I can see that if you have a one pocket, And have the pocket loaded up w weight that the pocket could tend to rotate.

I actually wrote to MacKenzie and had them make that exact bag for me. I saw Tom's earlier posts and fell in love with the look of the bag.

When I've overloaded the pocket it has caused twisting, but that hasn't affected performance (in terms of club tangle) that I've noticed. The bag is so comfy I actually got an 8" bag with the double pocket layout, and having used it a few times the extra pocket almost acts like a counter-balance which has meant no twisting.

I have travelled with mine to Ireland.  It was no issue, just make sure you buy a "Stiff Arm" to go inside your bag.  That's an absolute must.  Besides that, i generally remove the clubheads from my driver and FW wood,  put then inside the headcovers, and then inside the bag pocket.  After that, wrap the iron heads with your towel, lock in the stiff arm and you're good to go.

I literally did nothing but put my (bag with all the clubs) in my club glove travel bag. I had my clothes aligned the bag as well. Flew to Scotland 🙈realized all my clothes were in my bag.  No problems when the magic carousel rolled around and I saw my bag. I actually use Jones players bag.  Not a Mac but similar.
everything was fine. Played golf- drank the whisky-ate the fish.   Loved it. No worries from my experience.

The above is an awesome set up! I am actually going to look into something like that myself. I typically like to use a Sunday bag as well as one of my main bags (I use a Moonlite, not a Mac, but still might be helpful to the question on travel). I just have a typical Ogio soft travel cover, but when flying with clubs, I just pack two bags inside the one cover. So I put the clubs in a larger sturdier bag (in my case a Ping Hoofer), take the wood heads off, etc. and then I just slide my Sunday bag beside the larger one, strap them together, and pack it all together. The larger bag provides some stability and protects the clubs a bit, and the Sunday bag just sits empty beside it. I never come close to the 50 lb limit, and I will pack multiple pairs of shoes, golf clothes, balls, etc. I kind of like have the option of either bag too on road trips. Might want to ride one day, or pack rain gear, etc. So I just bring two bags in one travel cover.

So, my solution is pretty unique.

The short version of a longer story, is that pre-Covid, I traveled quite a bit for work and my clubs were on 20-30 flights a year for well over a decade. I’ve also carried a Mackenzie bag almost exclusively since 2010.

I say that, to say this… I’ve learned a lot about travelling with clubs, and have experienced all the pro’s and con’s of hard travel cases and soft travel cases.

Here’s my outside the box, well… box!

It’s a Pelican Storm case, that’s bombproof, fully lockable (but easily inspected by TSA), fits in the trunk of just about every rental car, and is easy to drag around airports and hotels.

The only “con” is that you have to be mindful of overall weight. The Mackenzie bag, a full-set of 14 clubs, a couple days worth of golf clothes, a pair of golf shoes, a rangefinder, and a few sleeves of balls, puts me right at 50lbs. I can easily bump it up another 10-15lbs if I add enough clothes for a week, a 2nd pair of shoes, and rain gear. YMMV.

Here’s a couple shots I took yesterday on a trip to PGA West. I didn’t take a 3rd shot of it fully-packed, but all I do is throw a towel over the club heads, fill a shoe bag with my golf clothes and put that on top of the towel, then lay my shoes (sole side up) across the middle of the Mackenzie. The 3 club heads (driver, 4-wood, 7-wood) are in their hardcovers and inside the golf bag pocket.

@the.landshark That is a cool solution! Don’t know if I could hump that case around in place of my Club Glove. Do you really find it easier to manage, or is it more for peace of mind that you could not possibly have damage occur with that case?

I really do find it easier, and the peace of mind is second to none. Plus, the weight is the weight… 50-60lbs in my Club Glove (collegiate size, with a Titleist Links Legend) is just a bigger, bulkier softer package than 50-60lbs is in my Pelican.

Easily fits in taxis, shuttles, and rental cars. Also easy to carry up and down a few stairs at some hotel entrances and airports.

I have to say - this is genius.  Do you happen to know which model you have?  I’m assuming the 44 inch interior dimension one?

Pelican Storm iM3220.

If I’m using a driver shaft that plays at 44.5-44.75, it fits perfectly lengthwise in the case (once the driver head is removed), any shaft that plays a little longer will have to be on a bit of an angle.

I also have the slimmer version, iM3200, that I’ll use with my half-set, and a smaller 6” Mackenzie par 3 bag. Works the same but in a lighter overall package.

this is such a great solution. I wish my leather Mac was pliable enough to pull this off. I have a pelican rifle case that I may try to work with for a similar solution.

This may be the best idea for golf travel I have seen. My son an I both play half sets, do you think this set up would work with 2 bags and 2 half sets? Neither one of us have a Mackenzie though, I have a small Koger and He has a Ping Moonlite.

It could, but hard to say for sure.

The thing that makes my travel setup super easy, is how easily my golf bag gets (quite) flat. If your 2 bags can fold into a low’ish profile when they’re empty, I’m confident you can make it work. You may have to get a little creative with the foam slabs that come with/inside the Pelican case, but that’s just part of the trail and error process, and based on your individual needs.

I ended up removing 2 of the 4 foam slabs completely in mine, so now there’s just one underneath and one in the lid. Once everything’s inside and all packed up, none of my gear moves even an inch during the flight.

If you give it a try, I hope it works out for you!
