r5 dual draw or neutral (non tour )

I've recently traded my Callaway X460 10* non tour version to an R5 dual draw biased non tour version.

I have played with the x460 and seems to have trouble squaring the face at impact and if i do it would result in a hook since it is 2* closed at address.

when i was in the launch monitor i hit them both the draw and neutral biased version and almost hit it straight all the time (one of the few days i hit my drives straight ) and i did'nt go to the right that much which I normally do make big slices when playing.

I was just wondering which would benefit me more as I go along since now I am doing some lesson should I and expecting to cure my slices. Shoul I exchange it for the neutral version instead or this draw biased would be fine with me. I see from the blogs that most of the guys using the r5 gets the neutral biased version.

I have a 80-85 mph clubhead speed and still learning the game shoots in mid 90s on an average.

Thanks.

I had this same thought when I bought my R5. My thoughts were that I wanted a "Neutral" driver, that would be neutrally setup, and my swing would be improved in order to hit it correctly. Frankly- I do NOT like the idea of high-offset drivers that are meant to cure slices (or hooks), so I ended up with an R5-N, which I love. I did end up putting 2 strips of lead tape on the heel, to help fight slicing.

Having said that - I've hit a friend of mine's R5-Draw on many occasions, and it is a very, very straight driver. My buddy has hooking problems, but oddly - he hits the R5-D very very straight and powerfully. If you're still learning the game, I would think you are better off with the R5-Draw version. If your swing improves dramatically in the next 2-3 years, you can upgrade to a different driver if you have problems hooking the R5-D (which I suspect you wont).

Here's a link to review of the R5 series in the "Review" section.....

A draw biased driver is not going to make you hook unless it is 10% closed or something ridiculous.

Those who blame a 2 degree closed clubface for hoiking a ball fifty yards left into the trees are fooling themselves. That's a swing problem.

However, if your normal shot tends to the left part of the fairway, a draw bias may not be ideal. Just as if your normal shot tends towards the right side of the fairway a neutral or open face is not ideal.

The original poster says his normal shot is to the right or a big slice. So one would have to say that the R5D would be a much better choice.

There is a common perception that using a close faced driver is bad. To me it is no different from those who play an open faced driver. Both are using club technology to correct swing tendencies.

If you need to use lead tape on an R5N to correct a slice, then you have chosen the wrong model of R5. Get the one you hit "very, very straight".

I've been very happy with my R5 D.

My misses have traditionally been to the right.

The R5D will NOT cure a slice - I'm sure you know this, but it just gives you an extra measure of confidence knowing that the technology is there to 'help' a little. And we all have those lack-luster days when our swing is not really 'on', and it a confidence booster to know you've got technology working on your side.
