Any love for Golf Pride Victory Swing Rite grips "Green"

Hey Guys,

Here is an old grip tha always seem to make its way back on whatever irons I am using at the time; the Golf Pride Victory Swing Rite Green grips. Is there any love for them out there?

I just kinda like them becasue they are plain, firm, and wear well, ohh, and they are cheap. I think GP is fasing them out as they are not posted on their current product line.

I think they are still popular on tour, Vijay, Couples, DL III, Stadler, and a bunch others use or have used them recentley.

Whats your thoughts?

Funny you should bring this up, have I got a story for you.

First, I think you are right, I think they are fasing them out.

I was worried about thatat the beginning of this year. for the last 5 years I couldn't live with out the "grip-rite swing-rite" but this year I changed teachers, and now I place my hands on the club in the varden style, I don't need the "grip-rite swing-right" anymore.

Maybe look at the v55 cord grip, it is everything the old victory grip was and more.

I used to use the ben hogan grip in the fingers of the left hand, when I relied on the "grip-rite swing-rite"

I now use the velvet cords, and I don't miss the "SRSR" at all anymore.

Yes, Golf Pride is no longer making the green Victory grip. From what I read, stock should last through the end of the year and then, goodbye.

The V55 are sweet, but I wish they changed the yellow to white outline. That yellow just bothers me to much, however the Green Swing Rite, is vintage and reminds me of when I first started playing the game.

I guess I could, paint them or remove the paint.

Paint's definately the way to go. I used to have the V55 cords on my irons. Trying to pick out the paint is more trouble than it's worth. Just buy some matte black model paint at the hobby store, a small bush, and go to town. Much better looking.

It's a shame the Victory's gone. It was nice to have a $4 full cord grip option. The lamkin tour black full cords have been a capable replacement though.

If the paint bothers you, and I know you want green, but I still have some (about 10) of the titleist v55's with white paint if you want them. I am not going to use them, I bought them in November, but have now switched to the titleist velvet cord.

I think titleist is no longer selling the v55 anymore, as my last order came in as velvet cords.

I seriously think you should try the velvet cords, I was skeptical too, but now I could never go back, and my hands don't get nearly as chewed up. I do play everyday, so it's nice to have good grips.

If you want the titleist I will sell them cheap, they are the .580 ( the only size they came in from titleist)

I think I paid like 7 or 8 bucks a grip, but if you want them you can have what I have left for say 3 bucks per grip.

Someone asked about is the 580 or 600 smaller, The 580 is smaller but still fits on a 600 but shaft just fine. In most brands, the 580 feels a little thinner as well but not much (more like a lady grip).

Always amazes me people still ask about the Golf Pride Green Victory grip. We absolutely still manufacture this grip (cord and rubber) for TOUR-only use. Occassionally we'll get a few calls about consumers requesting this grip. But very few. The introduction of the Tour Wrap in 1991 (now Tour Wrap 2G) and the Tour Velvet in 1995 were the main drivers in the decline of the Victory. It had a tremendous run. I've attached some pictures I took of various Victory models through the years from our Golf Pride museum here at headquarters in Southern Pines, NC. Some of these are old....still have the flash on the grip. Also included a snapshot of the Golf Pride Journal from 1957. Great stuff I think you guys will get a kick out of. Take it easy and thanks for remembering a historic grip. Bruce

Hi J.W. There just isn't a big enough market out there to support a full scale re-release.
[/quote]

I mean I get it but if you're producing them for the tour then why not sell them for custom order only? I guess I'm trying to figure out how that makes sense. Spend money to produce them and give them away or spend money to produce them to sell.

I think this might be backwards. The 580 is intended for a smaller shaft and is thicker. When put on a 600 shaft it results in a larger grip rather than smaller.
