The 1600 TE that I have works very well for me. I don't know if yours has this feature but this one if you keep them button held it will scan the different distances. So if your shaky you will still be able to pick what you want

His reply may have been more helpful than you are acknowledging. I've only ever used the GX-1, so I have no comparative points of reference. But the following link is as comprehensive review as I've seen on multiple units, and seems to show no discernable difference between ability to pick up a flag of the various units. So, perhaps your unit isn't functioning properly, or perhaps you will have as much trouble with another unit as you have with the GX-1? I don't know, but your difficulty in picking up targets with a unit that's known by other users to not have that particular problem would cause me to question whether you might have trouble with lasers in general. Have you used others with more success than you're having with the GX-1?

I have fairly steady hands. However, I had a Leupold GX-I and loved the size but struggled at times to get the yardage. Which ranger finder in your experiences makes it easiest to acquire the target? I'm not completely concerned with size but the smaller the better. Thank you.

Bushnell 1500 TE or the 1600 TE - they are bigger, which makes them easier to hold steady; and their optics are larger which makes it easier for target acquisition.

I have used or owned the 1500; 1600; Nikon Monarch 800; Cally 1200. I currently own the 1600.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't know if it didn't suit my eye, didn't set in my hand right, or I'm just an idiot - which is possible. I wanted to love it, believe me. I got a GREAT deal on a brand new one ($219) and it just didn't agree with me. I tried and it wasn't for me.

I was looking for alternatives and other suggestions, not for anyone to tell me how it worked for them since clearly it didn't for me....for whatever reason.

Oddly enough I bought it primarily from the review you listed above along with reading about it some on here. Maybe that was a mistake in buying it blind but no store around me carried them.

I'm not criticizing. I'm just wondering aloud if - given that you've had difficulty picking up flags with a unit that doesn't seem to have that problem with most people - you might have trouble picking up flags with all (or many) units. Your question in this thread implicitly assumes that some units pick up flags better than others, Based on what I've read, both in published reports and individual user reports, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in various units' flag-capture capabilities. So, I'm just trying to caution you before you plunk down another few hundred dollars that perhaps a laser isn't suited to you. Maybe you can find another brand to test for a round or two before spending cash without having tested it out.

In any event, good luck - I hope you find one that suits you.

If you are having an issue with the GX-I you might have an issue with the V2 because it is designed to be held and fired with one hand. If you want to be sure you're going to "love" something go with the Bushnell 1600. It is best operated with 2 hands horizontally and has the longest range (1,600 yards) and the largest magnification (7x). It is also waterproof and comes with a 2 year warranty. I don't think any other product on the market can beat it. The only drawback is the size, but it really shouldn't matter because no laser is small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket.

I really don't know why, but I used a V2 today and had a much easier time with that.

I am following up an posting this to let people know that if you're going to buy a rangefinder, try them if you can. I bought the Leupold without ever seeing one. I got lucky and broke even when I resold it cause I got it so cheap.

But my advice is - try a few and see which one works best. There are obviously a lot of fans of the Leupold and I'm sure it's a great product but the the V2 unquestionably was easier for me to use. Again, I don't have a clue why that is.

Did you play the same course under relatively the same conditions?

If the course has prisms on the pins, you virtually can't miss. The V2 is a good model. I gave mine to my brother-in-law and it works great, I just personally found the Leupolds better

Glad you found a rangefinder that works for you.

I agree about the prisms.I have a Leupold GX1 and played a course with the reflectors on the pins. It was great and very easy to lock on. I rely like the GX1 a lot and I was concerned about a shaky hand but it has not been a problem for me.

Got the Leupold GX3, one hand operation (4x3 in), touch my nose with my thumb while pointing (no shakes), point/click/read, 3 seconds you're done. Don't get me started on the OLED............it's just sick!!!

Oh yeah and the 7 different aiming receptacles is pretty sweet too on the Leupold.

The GX3 only has three, believe me , it's more than enough! The (+) reticle alone, does the job quite well actually.
