I live just south of Hartford, CT, a town over from the tour event this week. Up there as a guest of the assistant pro Jim Stickles. Played like absolute garbage but it was a great course, and I'd definitely make the trip again if I had the chance.

I grew up in Iowa and go back to play with my Dad. I have always wanted to play the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City. http://www.tcofiowa.com/ It's an Arnold Palmer signature course. Play it and let me know if it's great. :yahoo:

 

Anyway, I live in Fort Lauderdale now and I play new courses quite a lot. The TPC at Heron Bay is quite nice, lots of fairway bunkers to drive over. Too many new homes being slapped up around it though.

 

I played the Silver Course at Doral a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it's because it's Doral or because it was a misty morning and I was all alone...it was great. Well maintained...an island green, a few surprises which I like. Nice people.

 

There is a new course in Plantation Florida...Plantation Preserve. It's an Audubon Certified course...all natural, really beautiful. Municipal even.

The Bull At Pinehurst Farms, Whistling Straits (both courses), and Blackwolf Run (both courses). Haven't played much golf outside of Wisconsin, and when I do, it's never at anything very impressive.

I played the K club Palmer (Ryder Cup) course andthought it was god, but I wasn't a good enough player to fully appreciate it properly. Also, Hacienda del Alamo, a future Spanish Open site is one fo the best I have played

I have played purgatory golf course in indiana it is about 10 minutes from my house. It is only 7754 yards from the tips including a 741 par 5. It is a very unforgiving course but in beautiful conditions. On one par three you have to hit a shot 173 over like 20 bunkers to a green. Many challanging holes, and many bunkers and lots of fescue. Though a great course to play!

Plantation Course at Kapalua is the most well known best course I have played. Paa-ko Ridge in Albuquerque is still one of the best in my opinion, although it is not as well known.

edgewood in lake tahoe is by far the most beautiful and scenic course in lake tahoe. the price is $225 but its well worth it, heck u hit your 9 iron like 160 up there and the range has pro v practice balls

Colbert Hills in Manhattan, KS. Great course to seek out if in the Kansas City area amazing conditions and a tough course.

Yeah Colbert is definitly a great course. I thought it was a little bit quirky but a good course regardless. I played there when i qualified to go to Pebble Beach with the First Tee. Pebble is amazing!! Especially when you get to play two rounds for free. I know people say that Pebble has 6 good, 6 mediocre, and 6 bad holes but i disagree entirely. 4-10 is definitly probably the most beautiful stretch of golf holes in the world

Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC

 

This is my favorite place to play especially because of the Alistair McKenzie greens and the classic layout. Ben Hogan found this course to be an incredible challenge and I know that a few tour guys like to sharpen their game's here before Masters week. It's a private club but Masters week is the one week out of the year that they will take public play and it's worth every penny. While it only plays at 6700 yds from the tips, breaking 80 on your first time can be a difficult thing to do here.

once you get in the top 25 courses, its like splitting hairs. but mine is pine valley, and many courses just behind that one. and not far behind.

Unfortunately I live in Seattle and we have ONE course in the entire state that made Golf Digest's top 100. Gold Mountain...decent track, if you're in Seattle you gotta jump on a ferry and go play it (Olympic Course).

 

My company is based in Berkeley, CA and I just got to play Sequoyah CC last month...WOW! Now mind you, I have only played one private course before this, and it was in WA so obviously apples and oranges (pardon the climatic pun), but INCREDIBLE! Crazy elevation changes (it's in the Oakland Hills) and greens in the double digits on the stimp meter. We're talking being pin high 10 ft from the hole and playing almost 30ft of break, putting UPHILL and sinking it!

a no contest for me, Winged Foot Golf Club, the west course (U.S. Open course) without a doubt the best i ever played, and probably will ever play. Yale golf club would probably be second, then the orchards, and Oak Hill in Rochester

Best Golf courses

1. Congressional Blue Course - all the historical stuff does make it a nice course, good experience

2. Whiskey Creek in ijamesville, - ernie els design

3. Bob o Link in chicago area.

4. fords colony (can't remember what 2 courese i played there)

 

Best experience bar none was Palm springs desert springs marriott hot as can be in august but with my wife really enjoying the day/heat, golf/ each other's company... For sure that is the repeat choice with my wife as a great views/ nice course, nice experience with her.

 

Most over rated/overpriced by far has been the Boca Resort's golf course.
