Q. If you don't get your TOUR card but reach the final stage, what happens?

A. After the PGA TOUR cards have been decided, the next number of players nearest to 50 will receive fully exempt membership on the Nationwide Tour. The remaining players who have made it to the final stage of q-school will have conditionally exempt status on the Nationwide Tour. So getting to the final stage is key.

One player I was rooting for was disqualified before posting a score for one round, James Vargas.

I don't see James Nitties, which is baffling. Perhaps he is exempt to 3rd stage, although he fell out of the top 150 on the money list in the past few events. I thought that was the criteria to bypass second stage.

Mike Hendry...New Zealands local pro tour number one and a guy with an interesting story.

Was a top cricket player as a young adult( that funny sport played down here), and was in the National under 19 side so was aiming for a career in the game. Apparently in his mid 20s decided he was not getting along with the selectors, so threw it all in and turned to golf. Has made huge strides in the last year, and in April, 24 of us played a 2 day benefit weekend to aid him gather the cash to get over to Q school. We played at our only Jack designed course,called Kinloch, which is scary long and extremely hard, and he shot the lights out.
Then a month or so later, won the Indonesion Open on the OneAsia tour, 180 000 US, and his first big win( did not need our benefit money any more). Went over to Q school and won his satge one, and is now 4th after day one in round 2.

Would be quite a story if David Gosset got through second stage. And he's got a decent chance sitting at T27 right now in Humble, Tx.

Amazing round by Benoit Beisser in Murrieta, CA, if the scorecard is accurate.

He shot 68 to move into T6 at -5, despite a double bogey and triple bogey on consecutive holes. Benoit apparently followed that with an eagle on the par 5 9th, and a double eagle on the par 5 11th. He played the four par 5s in -7.

That card was posted not long ago. I've seen bizarre early mistakes on Futures Tour online scorecards -- hole in ones that later turn into routine pars -- but pgatour.com is typically reliable.

On edit: Still a remarkable combination of scores but on closer examination Benoit started on the back nine. So the eagle and double eagle weren't nearby, they were on his 2nd and 18th holes. Benoit actually had it to -6 on the day after 12 holes, dropped to -1 after 15, then finished with a birdie on his 16th hole and eagle on his 18th.

Looking at the Panama City Beach section - 75 players total. How many get through after 4 rounds?

That info is at the top of the scoring links, in relatively small print. Panama City advances 19 and ties. Other spots are 20 and ties.

BTW, the LifeOnTour caddie blog says James Vargas was disqualified after the first round of second stage Q School for taking one step outside the designated scoring area without signing his card. No word what he shot.
