Wood Brothers Texan

Recommended Posts

Freddie-

+1 as Bella would tell you-

Hillerich and Bradsby (H&B)/ PowerBilt made quite a few keepers in the Driver category.

Trevino said he used one at Merion, and supposedly Weiskopf used one at the 1975 Masters.

Of note, H&B Louisville Power-Bilt S124 of 1940 was offered on page 1 of their Professional catalog- in "Natural" stain. Imagine the grain on those.

In viewing their catalogs from Vintage Golf, H&B stepped up their marketing of LH golf equipment in 1940 on page 7 of their full line.

Strangely enough for me, the great looking LH PowerBilt persimmon drivers from my past had Aluminum shafts, though there are LH Persimmon Model 401s from 1955.

OK own up - who just bought the Masters Wood Bros on US eBay ?

My money is on freddiec :)

Here she is - and what a beauty! http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-MUSEUM-QUALITY-WOOD-BROS-AUGUSTA-NATIONAL-1993-MASTERS-PERSIMMON-DRIVER-/301570500430?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESINDXX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=pnkIiOgLOByiuapUIjE4HFWCz4s%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

And here is her Green sister, who is still available :)

Cool looking club. I didn't realize it was an Augustan. Love the green shaft!

Congrats if you did that purchase The Masters driver.

A little steep, twice the previous ones on Ebay.

However, I never knew how limited the were until today.

Wish I had 1100 for the green head Masters.

I think I like your Augustan much better than The Masters drivers.

I have to say post mid 50's MacGregor I can't think of any persimmon more collectible and awesome to show.

I agree - I'm having my All American re-gripped at the moment, and all the staff in the Pro Shop are in raptures about how beautiful the club is.

When Art and Sport collide ...

Hey Freddie, nice job getting the Ranson Texan, looks very similar to mine AA with the speed slot (Peter Jacobson's)..

Tstephen, nice collection too! I agree that the All Japan is a nice looking club! Your Blonde Texan is very similar to one I acquired last year.

Here are my 3 All American's. Each quite different from the other..

These spectacular irons are rarer than Wood Bros Texans. Sweetest feel at impact ever!

I believe less than 100 sets were produced, all hand ground by an old Japanese Master Sammuri sword maker.

I played them for a few years and still have 3 sets - 2 unhit.

My avatar is the A wedge from the set - even rarer - maybe 10 made? I've never seen another one.

P.S. - Wood Bros also made a similar cast version of this model, but they are generally very light in swing weight.

Texs, CC, TStephen et el.. Here are a few pics of the Masters driver I acquired. Reminds me alot of the infamous Seve driver with the same insert. Seve was a big fan of Masters series driver. Its a beautiful head and another great example of Dave Wood's great creations. Even has some carbon specs, sign of a very hard wood. This has a Steel shaft and really fantastics specs. (D4 SW), 43.5 inches.

freddiec,

Of course, Seve asked Dave to build his blond, green insert Mona Lisa, after seeing your Masters Commemorative.

So, freddiec owns the Prototype for Seve's driver - a good reason to have it.

Wow Freddie! Nice club! I wondered who bought it.. So similar to mine except for the different crown stamping well and color.. Ha!

Tstephen, also a very nice club! I thought that it was owned by another collector or am I mistaken??

I own Seve's green insert driver, along with Seve's aluminum firing pin EOM-60 clone, and a Spanish sole plate Espana Seve commissioned

Dave restored the green insert driver before he sold it to me, a few years ago. I beat freddiec out of it with a little luck.

Texsport I thought so.. Caught me off guard with Tstephens post..

Want to sell it???

CC

Ha! No, but freddiec has first refusal on all my clubs, so you'd have to work with him if I ever sell.

With a PGA professional son and 4 golfing grandsons, the chances are slim and none, however.
