fast hips

is killing my game
its been almost a year now and i still cant slow down my hips it has gotten so bad that last high school i naturaly started having a shut face at the top of my swing so when i made contact with the ball it would be square at impact

now i have fixed my swing to were it is square at the top but my hips are too quick and i cut across the ball with results of a big fade which is killing my distance

i would love to here results of how you can slow down my hips

my hips are so fast that they make a complete turn before i even make contact i cant even feel my hips starting my swing :drinks: ;)

if i fix this im sure i can make my 3.7 handicap turn in to a + handi

shouldnt your hips start your downswing?

the 3.7 is a nice touch it wasn't necessary in the post :drinks:

I will let others chime in. I found that i needed to turn my right foot in toward the ball slightly. I turned my left foot in slightly and that quieted down my hips. I also lost 6mph with a driver with the quieter hip clearing not that i really care.

I doubt a swing change will lower your handicap 5 points that takes drastic practice and not a quick fix.

With a slice, I would almost bet that you are starting the downswing with your shoulders. You may feel like it is your hips but, that will usually cause a quick hook. If you get Harvey Pennick's little red book, you will see something he calls his magic move. Read on it a bit. It is the best explaination I have ever seen for starting the downswing. You may also want to get the book "The Plane Truth" by Jim Hardy. It has a great explanation as well (as soon as you figure out what type of swing you have).

first off budd i never said you shouldnt start your swing with the hips but when i take it to the top my hips are already turning threw so im sure thats not good at all

i practice every day almost and my handicap has been lowering since oct. when all the fast hip stuff started

it is probly clear now that i dont have a 3.7 from my swing ... so meaning am a up and down player right now so yes it was necessary for the post because if i get my distance back and accracy i will hit more fairways and hit some close pin shots so im sure it will drasticly lower my handicap...... not by tom. if thats what you think im talking about by the end of the year

i dont think turning my foot in will help i would more than likely hurt my knee doing it

so why dont you keep your smart AZZ posts to your self !!!!!

Try this, I have the same problem.

1.) Widen your stance. Many times, widening your stance will automatically serve to slow the hips down as it provides a wider base.

2.) Open stance a LITTLE bit.

3.) Drop the club from the top. The one poster earlier is correct, if you get a little too aggressive on the first move down, it can throw everything off on your downswing. At the top of your backswing, let the hands fall straight down, this will help keep everything in sync and keep your hips from flying out.

Lastly, slow down overall. Trust your swing. Instead of manufacturing a bunch of different release points (hips, shoulders, hands) let everything happen naturally with a few punch shots, then move up the bag.

HOpe this helps.

i was told to hit balls with my feet together....... is that a good idea?

Why would you want to slow anything down, wouldn't that just make your swing more timing based and make your body go against what it naturally wants to do?

Why don't you turn a hinderance into an asset?

I'd find an instructor willing to match your upper body speed with your lower body or at least sync them up by speeding up the top half.

If you find an instructor who can teach the Hardy one plane, you can turn your hips as fast as you want, and you'll hit the ball with great contact and dead straight.

Just MHO, but until I'm swinging at 145mph, I don't want anyone telling me to slow anything down.

turning your right knee in should not hurt you. If it does you have an incredible sway to your right side.

Try playing in sandals for a few rounds to quiet down your hips and in turn your feet. If you can't put a good golf swing on the ball on flat terrain in regular shoes then your hips are too active in my opinion.

I will take some videos of my swing in the next few days and we can compare swings. Will that work for you?

I still stand behind my idea to speed up the top half, but did you watch Academy Live tonight with Martin Hall?

Couple of drills which addressed your exact problem.

1. Impact bag between your feet

2. Hitting balls keeping your right heel on the ground through impact

Might want to give those a try.
