black gold, are they really worth switching?

I have been playing rifle 6.o and DG s300,

I have been thinking about trying one of these in a 5 iron, I like a high ball flight, will i like these?

I took the test at shaftfit.com and it said I would like these.

Anyone else playing them? is the tip nice and soft like a rifle? I may just go back to rifles.

i have them and i think the tip is soft. Feels like silk at impact. The shaft labels must face up as they are pre pured Which may put you off? Does not bother me. But being pre pured is one less thing to blame!

Do these shafts really look gold, or tarnish to gold? sounds kind of ugly.

That actually works better in my mind--by that reasoning, lefties get the shaft labels down. :man_in_love:

they do seem stiffer then a tt dg but not a whole flex. I swing at 80mph and regular seem perfect for me with a lovely feel. I have only had them a month and they look like they have been brushed with gold dust! I think they look good Probably better before they tarnished though.

I was fitted for Black Golds in Cleveland CG4 Tours by the Cleveland Tour Van. They are great. Ball flight is super, tight dispersion, excellent weight. I tried DGS300 and DGSL, but the Black Golds perform the best.

Are you sure about this? I have BG shafts installed label down. I bought them from Golfsmith and there were no specific instructions anywhere (in the box or on TT's website) that indicate these shafts are pured.

They are frequency tuned, which might be a "puring" of sorts, but again, there were no installation instructions.

Either way, they are great shafts.

My TT BG shafts have their lables all over the place.... my clubfitter spined these shafts and the perceived spines were all over, hence my lables are not in 1 fixed position.

Doesn't bother me.

Putting the labels aside for a moment, what's the overall consensus on those playing the Black Gold's?

I'm going to pull the Rifle Flighted 6.5 (which I've had no luck with) in my RAC TP's and one of the contenders is the Black Gold. I normally play the DG's (I prefer a heavier feel and mid ball flight) so I thought this would be smooth transition.

Thoughts/suggestions/recommendations?

P.S. - Anyone looking for some TRF 6.5 pulls????

I had Dynamic Gold s300 shafts in my CG2's and was not very happy with them. I put in Black Gold shafts, X flex and used lead tape to frequency the set to 7.0. I could not be happier. The ball flight is higher than the Dynamic gold, but not ballooning. I am no longer leaking balls left or right and the dispersion pattern/distance control is much tighter. It is hard to describe the feel, but I am really confident in my irons now.

My buddy (who is a PGA teaching pro) was amazed at how close in frequency the entire set was before adding the lead tape to get the entire set to match. He said that he never bought one set of Rifle shafts and have the set match that close.

I would recommend getting fitted before changing.

I've read that the black golds are not constant weight and that they are slightly lighter in the short irons. For those who've tried BGs - does this affect the swingweight and feel? I prefer constant weight and a slightly higher swingweight from the PW onwards.

I re-shafted my gamer irons with a set of black golds (ss 85). I'm quite happy with the feel and performance. I do think they are just a bit stiffer and I definately do not balloon them at all. As far as weight I have had no issues with it at all. There is no way these shafts come pured or spined. I spined and floed mine and they were all over compared to the shaft bands. Overall a great set of shafts from true temper.
