Phoenix Golf Trip Review

The Duke, Southern Dunes, Golf Club of Estrella, Superstition Mtn

What a fun trip! I've been home for a day now and we're getting 2" of sleet followed by 10" of snow tonight. I'm ready to turn around and go back to Phoenix!

We started our trip with 18 at The Duke Golf Club. I was surprised by the 30 minute frost delay, but The Duke was a great course to start our trip. It was in great shape and was a fun course to play. My round was highlighted by a hole out on the par 5, 14th from 86 yards for eagle!

Next we headed to Southern Dunes Golf Club. The course provided spectacular views and the prairie style layout contrasted very well with the mountain backdrop. I thought the course was in excellent shape and definitely played very tough. I'd definitely recommend to anyone.

Our Saturday was spent at The Golf Club of Estrella. An excellent course with arguably the two best finishing holes I've ever played! The conditions were outstanding and the greens very fast! The course runs the the foothills of the Estrella Mountains and provided excellent backdrops and views.

And a link to the tee shot at the par 4 18th. The tee was perched on top of one of the hills adjacent to the 17th green. You could see the whole valley from the tees.

We finished our trip Sunday with 18 on the Prospector Course at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club. What a spectacular facility. The clubhouse and amenities were first class! Once they add a few more members that are going back to completely private. I would highly recommend a visit before this happens.

This course provided the best scenery of the trip. The course was based at the foot of the Superstition Mountains and they provided a backdrop to many holes! The course was in excellent shape and the greens extremely fast! Every hole was a challenge to my game.

I appreciate everyone's help in choosing these courses. I can't wait to get back and play some more!

I've got a trip in April - if you don't mind what was the cost at each? I've got S Dunes and Superstition at the top of my list.

I booked The Duke and Southern Dunes on GolfNow.com for $45 & $60 respectively. I signed up a few months ago for the Golf Club of Estrella's email specials program and got a coupon for unlimited golf, a dozen Pro V1s and lunch for $99. We were the second group off for the day and ended up playing 42 holes before darkness hit.

For Superstition Mountain, well it was free (GolfNow was $100 I believe). The best value of the weekend!

So we played 96 holes of golf for right around $210 / player.

I'd love to be so inconsistent.

Glad you enjoyed The Duke. It is not one of the well known or premier courses due to its location and the tract home routing, but it is an enjoyable play and a solid design with lot's of variety.

Shot an 84 from the tips...and paid $64 for Southern Dunes on February 11. This is the hardest course I've played since Erin Hills last year. It had some blind approach shots...and a near blind par 3....but overall a great course and a huge challenge. 7200 from the tips....and huge bunkers guard every shortcut off the tee. If you play safe off the tee...your approach shots will be at least 200 yards away....unless you consistently bomb it 290-300.

Highly recommend to anyone. HINT: Do not miss the exit for this course on IH-10. Next real exit is 20 miles south & will kill 40 minutes to make up.
