I agree with a lot of the thoughts above. I like getting a 60* with low bounce and bending it to a 58*. In my opinion the 60's usually have more sole and heel grinds. By bending them to 58* you still can easily open it up to get all the loft you want or square it up and hit it lower and further then the 60*. It seems to give me some versatility and a larger range of shots from one club.

Im the odd ball that will go with 56*. Played around with them for so much longer then the other lofts that over the years I have learned to hit about any shot that I needed with it. It all depends on what you have learned with and feel most comfortable with. I watched "playing lessons for the pros" on the golf channel this morning with Tom Watson and he also stated a standard sand wedge was all he carried due to learning with it. Get what your comfortable with and feel confident with. Im still trying to learn confidence with the 60's and am getting a little better but if money is on the line, give me my 56.:man_in_love:

i can give you any grind on a wedge you provide. I have a few on the way from golfwrxers. That being said I use a 46 PW 52 AW and 58 LW and i feel like i leave no strokes on the course at all...if i did I would switch to a 60PM grind and bend my 52 to a 53 and get a M grind on it. I like getting less strokes/$ value for my round and i will pay a hefty premium to obtain it.

I feel like my bag is set except for a X-tour 52 but I won't pay retail :man_in_love:

The 58 is the best in my opinion since with the P grind you can use it out of the sand and it works perfectly since it actually plays more bounce out of the sand since it "throws" more sand due to the increased actual sole contact due to the concave P-grind when the wedge is opened up.

Im definitly gonna hafta go with the 56*. In fact, the shaft snapping on my 60* was the best thing that ever happened to my golf game! Its easy to try to get a little too cute with some shots around the green with a 60*, and now I can do anything I could with that wedge with my 56. I am also a HUGE fan of the 52* gap wedge. I hit a lot of shots around the green with it, and I hit a pretty nasty carving knockdown shot with it too...

58*

never liked the 56* because typically it is a "sand wedge" with an extremly high bounce 14*-16*. 58* i've found great from bunkers of any lie. lets you create a lot of shots around the green too but closing it a little or opening it up.

totally agree.....your pitching wedge is around the 47-48* mark, so you definetly need a Gap around 51-52. The next step should be a sandwedge in the 56-57 vecinity. I belive a lob ta 60*will be a good weapon for many finesse shot, but an all around would be at most a 58*.... No more...

Whats everyones opinion on a 56* 14* high bounce sand wedge??. Isn'tt 14* too much?, any one owns one of these and cares to share an opinion??

I use a 60* for most of my shots around the green, unless it is a long bump and run (or where I need to work a chip), then I'll use a P wedge. I find that a 60*'s grind makes it easiest to play most shots around the green - bumps, flops, lobs, standards, bunker play (my pro uses a lob wedge for most chips, too) - most things you can think of plus it gives you more room to land closer to the hole. Plus I chipped in on the 2nd and then hit the pin on 3rd today from uphill chips with it:)

I have a X-Tour 56.13 Wedge and agree 100% with you. The 13º of bounce is just too much unless you use it as a dedicated sand wedge and you play at courses like Pebble Beach with perfect bunckers.

Here in the NE, towards the end of July thru Sept conditions can get a bit on the firm side and a 56.13 becomes useless. Also, since I play mostly Semi-Private courses most of the bunkers are not in Tour condition and can be a bit firm where you don't need 13º of bounce.

That's just my expirience. An 56.11 X-Tour with the PM Grind might just be a perfect fit for me, but Callaway doesn't make em.

most versatile? a 58 degree wedge.

I like a 8 degree bounce on the 58 - this is one of the most used clubs in my bag and can be used in many situations.

It flops nicely, it gets you out of bunkers, you can chip and pitch with it easily, it spins when you want and it doesn't have to when you ask it. Invest in a good one out of the gate. enjoy the game...

I've changed my wedge game a bit in the last 6 months. I don't use the 60* as much as I used to (unless I really need to stop the ball on a dime), tending to use SW, PW, 9i, 8i & even 7i when chipping. I use 60* for shorter bunker shots and 56* for longer bunker shots. I also generally use the SW for pitches (because of my distances with a 1/2 & 3/4 swing), but my 56* has only 10* bounce, which helps. I'll be happiest when I get my 52* cos I love them around the green and to pitch with a lower tragectory.

seems like i use my 60* for anything and everything inside of 100 yards.

the most versatile club i've ever used would be a 56* even though i don't carry one anymore..

how does your 60* perform in the bunkers?

i only ask because i've never seriously put one in play. i've tinkered here and there, but it's never found a solid place in my bag. i'm thinking i might go the way of 54* & 58* SM Vokey wedges now. I dunno though.

58 with a medium bounce.

Open the face a little and you have a 60, close the face and you have a 56. For me, the 58 is easier to hit than a 60. The medium bounce allows you to hit shots from tight lies, without getting too bouncy, and the bounce helps in greenside bunkers and full shots.

The first reply nails it for me.

Much depends on the type of bunkers you play. Around here, most are harder so a med bounce 58 works fine. If the bunkers are fluffy, I have a bit of trouble with digging but it's worth it to me to keep the 3 wedge system.
