A 2-iron used to be a standard option in the 1957's. My guess is that mine is one of the very few that were ordered (in the grand scheme of things anyway) so they eventually just dropped them altogether. As much as I'd love to say that they made it just for me, sadly, that's not the case. If you really wanted a 2-iron though, I suppose that they might be able to put one together for you. I'd guess that they don't just throw away the tooling for these. Probably a long shot but it's worth posing the question.

I had 2 that I'd go back and forth with. Most of all I used an old heel shafted copper Nicklaus putter with a LOT of lead tape on the back flange. I'd also rotate in a Callaway Tuttle from time to time, especially on the slower/flatter greens. My dream putter was a classic Anser, never did manage to get my hands on one though.

I find that I've been swapping in my 14.5 and 17.5 TEE CB Pro's more often as well. When I do this I'll drop the 16.5 and the 2-iron. Depending on the course, I'll also swap the 4-iron for a 3-iron. I hit the 17.5 pretty far and the gap between that and the 3-iron is more manageable than between the 17.5 and the 4-iron. I'm really struggling with the top side of my bag. I love the 14.5/17.5 arrangement but it leaves me with large gaps in my long irons. I may have to start playing with the lofts of the long irons a little if I'm going to keep carrying 2 FW woods.

 

As for the new wedges, Mizuno MP-T5s (that ladahl custom ordered for me), I finished getting them "rebuilt" last night. Needed to tweak the loft and lie a little (no more than 1.5' in any direction) but the lengths were quite a bit off so I pulled the grips and trimmed. In the end all of the swing weights are within a 1/4 point so that's where I'm going to leave them. I'll start working with these on the range/practice green today and see how things go. The sole grinds on the Mizuno's are very different than the Yururi's so hopefully the adjustment period will be a quick one (the sole on the Yururi tour wedge is very unique). My wedge game has really been a strength of mine this season so as excited as I am to put new ones in my bag, I'm going to proceed with caution. ;)

[color=#282828]Well, I threw caution to the wind and put the MP-T5s in the bag after my 2 week hiatus. I figured that I needed to work on my "feel shots" anyway so why not toss in the new wedges at the same time? As I mentioned, the sole grinds are very different and it is taking some time to adjust but so far, so good. In my maiden round with the the MP-T5s I did manage to post a 33 (-3) in my league round, partially due to a solid wedge game. The difference in spin between the MP-T5s and my Yururi's is extreme, the Yururi's have been through the wars and should have been retired a while ago. In fact, I did have to knock in a 15' par putt in the aforementioned round due a pitch shot checking up on me a lot harder than expected, that's going to take a little more practice to get used to. It's a welcomed change though, time to practice up![/color]

Even during our Club Championship last weekend I couldn't help but tinker with the bag, just a little bit.

On Saturday I started the event with the same setup that usually play.

On Sunday, due to the change in conditions (mainly wind), I swapped out the 16.5' CB Pro for my 13.5' CB Pro. I nearly swapped out the Super Rat as well but, quite honestly, the problem was with my stroke on Saturday, not with the putter.

The weather was brutal Saturday with sustained winds of roughly 20mph and gusts nearing 30mph out of the South. With this wind direction only 1 hole plays directly downwind, 2 others played slightly downwind (diagonally w/a bias to the right). On Sunday the winds picked up even more and held in the 25+ mph range with gusts hitting nearly 40mph! Wind direction changed and was out of the West. This meant that a few holes would play downwind but a bunch would play directly into the wind as well. As luck would have it, the wind was high enough that even with a wind at your back, it was knocking the ball down. To make matters worse, the course was pretty soft on Saturday and with more rain Saturday night/Sunday morning, it was nearly Lift, Clean, and Place saturated by Sunday (we still played them down but there was a valid argument for LCP). Needless to say conditions were very unpredictable and scores were high on both days. I doubt that anybody who played will be framing a copy of their weekend scorecards, I know I won't.

Somehow I managed to put together a pair of rounds that were good enough to win the Championship Flight!!!! I didn't get a fancy trophy like MNNikeGuy did (at least not yet, I've heard that they give out "awards" at the end of year banquet so... maybe?) but I do get to go into 2016 as the Defending Club Champion. That works for me! I WILL shoot a better number next year though, I don't care what the conditions are like. Alright, enough of that, time to go practice for the next one.

I won't lie, it was a very humbling experience. Ironically, now I really want the weather to get nasty so I can keep playing/practicing in it. How else will I get better in those conditions?
