rebby's old WITB (with black Miura 1957's)

They look fantastic, very envious, and the bag compliments them perfectly.

Couple of pieces of the finest Persimmon under those headcovers and bobs your uncle fannys your aunt, dream bag.

I have the 2 iron in the precision, looks beautifull from the top down, can only imagine looking at those.

They are a treat to bring out to the course. Most people think that they are brand new irons. I should have posted this link earlier -> http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1169103-my-hogan-precisions/

Made it out on Monday. 78 @ The Refuge, not bad for taking a full month off.

Shipping notification for the new wedges showed up in my inbox today. Can't wait for them to arrive.

Pulled the tip from the Grandura 550 today. 430/Grandura wasn't a very good combination, I think that it was the overall weight. It felt really heavy and I really needed to stand on it to get the right feel out of the shaft. Perhaps a 550 in an S-flex (or tipped S) would be better? I'll give it a go in the DBD (despite really liking the Speeder that's in there right now). I stuck a Fujikura Pro 61 XLR8 X in the 430. So far, I'm liking that combo quite a bit better than the 430/Grandura.

Love those Personals/Percussion! My fall bag, 2017 bag is gonna be 1999 blades and 2006 Apex Edge. Who did the rechrome?

I believe that these were done at The Iron Factory. I bought the heads shortly after they were restored by the previous owner.

What wedges you playing now?

Didn't notice this one back in December. Get away from the forums when I'm 5+ feet under the snow. LOL

Anyway, I bought a set of the Hogan TK-15s last year. Ended up with 52, 57, 62. Really like that combination and once I got used the V-sole I've found it to be pretty versatile. It's nice to see Cleveland jump on board, more options is always a good thing (especially considering the state of Hogan right now).

One thing that I've noticed with the V-sole (or maybe I'm just getting better due to practice?) is that I'm seeing duplication between the 57 and 62, much more so than I've experienced in the past. Prior to getting the Hogan wedges, I've always played a medium bounce on the 52, high bounce on the 56/57, and very low bounce on the 60/62. I felt that this combination gave me the versatility to pull off pretty much any shot that I could need in a number of playing conditions (soft/hard, thick/thin lie, etc). With the V-Sole, the versatility is kind-of built in and I haven't really come across any conditions where I've been unhappy with the bounce so I'm not really switching between clubs as often (mainly the 57 and 62). I can also pull off a much wider variety of shots with the 57 than I could in the past (mainly due the perceived limitations of high bounce wedge vs a low bounce model). Long story short... this has me rethinking my wedge setup and I've been strongly considering moving to a 53, 58 combination instead of the 3 wedge setup (not counting my 48' PW) that I've used for as long as I can remember. This is something that I'll defiantly play around with later this summer (with a Mitchell machine in my garage it's easy to experiment with various loft combinations).

My initial post in this thread is pretty outdated, I'll try to get that corrected over the next week or two but, for the most part, my bag has been pretty stable over the years. Like most everybody on this forum I continue to test new clubs/ideas but things just don't seem to stick.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier but last summer I decided that I wanted an iron shaft with a slightly softer, more active, feel than my beloved C-Tapers (especially in my long irons) and I found myself playing my Hogan Precisions more and more. Eventually my brain was able to process 2 and 2 and I realized that maybe soft stepped KBS Tour-V's would be a good option for my 1957's (that's what I have in my Precisions). I decided to dive in and ordered a set of new shafts. I also decided to do a "poor man's" MOI match while I was at it (a wealth of information can be found on this on https://www.tutelman.com including the mathematics to do a weight based MOI match that I used with surprising accuracy). I ended up liking the results of my "MOI match" so much that I ordered a very precise swing weight scale and now do my "MOI match" based on a progressive swing weight (1.3-1.4 SW points per inch). After much testing I found the SW curve that worked best for me and, interestingly enough, when I did this blindly on a per-club basis I found my results to meet the 1.3p/1" almost perfectly (within 0.2p across the entire set!). As nice as it would be to have a speed scale at my disposal, I've had excellent results with my "blind weighting" technique (just lots of range time + lead tape + impact tape).

I've also tested a few new driver/shaft combinations and even grabbed a TaylorMade UDI over the past few months. None of them stuck for one reason or another and were quickly turned over on the BST. As it stands at the moment my bag configuration is as follows;

Driver - Callaway 816 DBD 9' w/Fujikura Pro XLR8 61 X-flex @ 45.25" D2.5

FW - Tour Edge Exotics CB Pro 16.5' w/Fujikura Speeder 757 X-flex @ 42.75" D3

Irons - Black Oxide Miura 1957s 2, 4-PW (1/2" increments, 38" 5-iron @ D1.3, 1.4p/1" progressive SW, KBS Tour-V X-flex ss1)

Wedges - Ben Hogan TK-15s 52, 57, 62 (KBS Tour V X-flex 9-iron, 8-iron, 8-iron @ D4.8, D5.2, D5.2)

Putter - RWB Scotty Cameron ButtonBack (at the moment)

Ball - 2016 TaylorMade Tour Preferred X

I have been toying with the idea of swapping out my 2/3 iron for a driving iron. Gave the UDI a try but it really wasn't for me (probably the shaft, C-Taper Lite S-flex) so I parted ways with it. I did hit the Srixon U65 at a demo day recently and was impressed so I may give that a go. I felt that it looked better at address than the UDI and the ball flight was much more stable. I already have a 19' M1 that I'll swap in from time to time so I don't feel any sense of urgency to address this segment of my bag. Besides, with my recent Tour V swap (and progressive SW) I am liking my current long iron setup more and more.

I've also been following the buzz surrounded by the new Callaway Epic and Epic Sub Zero and in typical fashion wasn't able to avoid all the hype. I just grabbed a Sub Zero head that I plan on testing side by side with my 816. I've been really happy with what I've seen out of the demo heads that I've hit so I'm cautiously optimistic. With as well as I've been hitting the 816 I don't feel a -need- to change but I feel like I might be missing out if I don't give it a fair shake. I also picked up a Fujikura Atmos Blue 6x to include in my testing. Again, super happy with my XLR8 but... you know how it is.

New pictures incoming sometime soon.

What, no pictures of the new sticks? What shafts?

I know! I've been terrible with pictures lately. Too much going on I guess. Here are some quick cell phone grabs.

Srixon765.JPG

Srixon965.JPG

Details are as follows;

Srixon z765 4-6

Srixon z965 7-P

Shafts are KBS Tour V S hard stepped 1x @ +1/2"

Lofts have a consistent 4' gap starting with a 21' 4-iron

Essentially I built these to be 1 club stronger than my baby blades according to the stamp on the sole to account for the "adjustment" in lofts. I did something similar with my Hogan Precisions and it worked out really well.

Hogan 4-iron - 38" KSB Tour V X, 28' loft, 61' lie angle

1957 5-iron - 38" KBS Tour V X soft stepped 1x, 28' loft, 61' lie angle, 432.6g total weight

Srixon 6-iron - 38" KBS Tour V S hard stepped 1x, 29' loft, 61' lie angle, 427.4g total weight

In the end, the Srixon 4-PW should play pretty similar to my 1957 3-9. I grabbed a Hogan TK-15 48' wedge to fill the gap between the Srixon PW and my current gap wedge.

I'm not going to go into a rant about "loft jacking" since, in the end, yardage gaps are what matters but it's about a lot more than just adjustments in loft. Head weights differ throughout the set as well and since the "loft jacked" head weights haven't gotten lighter, it's really messed with my current swing weight preference, especially when I try to keep the loft/length ratio consistent. Thus, at this point, I've concerned myself more with total weight than swing weight (hence going with the 110g Tour V S in the Srixon vs the 120g Tour V X in my 1957s). I'm really curious to see how this build will work out for me and what adjustments I end up needing to make. I'm hoping to get some time on the range with some impact tape and my Mevo tomorrow but the schedule is pretty tight right now (fast approaching major medical procedure).

At this point, I'm hoping that the z65s will be a nice supplement to my baby blades when life is too demanding to play/practice on a consistent basis. The baby blades simply can not be beat when it comes to shot making but there is the obvious tradeoff when it comes to "forgiveness". I'm hoping that the z65s can help bridge the gap when the swing is a little off. Either way, it should be a fun test. I've had the baby blades in the bag for quite some time so, if nothing else, it'll be fun to switch it up a little just for the heck of it.

My bag make up for the last couple of rounds. Wanted something a touch more forgiving due to my lack of time to practice/play lately.

Initial review is positive and I've been pretty happy with them thus far. I love the V-Sole throughout the set. The blade is very long and rounded compared to what I'm used to and that's taking some time to adjust. I almost never hit the baby blades out on the toe but catch both the z765 and z965 out there from time to time. They do have a little different feel throughout the swing through so it might just be taking a little bit of time to adjust.

Distance wise, the Srixon's are about a full club longer than the baby blades but that's mostly due to the lofts. I suppose that I could jack the lofts on the baby blades to catch up but that's just silly, irons are about precision not distance. Precision wise, the Srixon's have the potential. I've hit a few pin seekers but my best shots with the Srixon's have yet to match my best with the baby blades (to be fair, I haven't played the Srixon's for that many rounds either). My bad shots with the Srixon's aren't much, if any better, than the baby blades either. After all, it's more about the Indian. Then again, it is a little more comfortable standing over the z765/965 when it's been 2+ weeks since I've swung a club and I have a forced carry over water to a tight pin. Once I'm back to practicing/playing regularly though, I can see the baby blades going right back into the bag.

Under the head covers, I have an Epic SubZero with a Fujikura Pro 61 XLR8 (same shaft that I played in my 816), a TEE CB Pro, and my Super Rat. I've been working with the Fujikura Atmos Blue 6x in the driver as well. Still too early to tell if I'll end up swapping that in or not.

And... just like that, I'm back to the baby blades. I put them back in the bag a few days ago to hit some balls at the range and they just kind-of stayed there. Played a few rounds since then and I'm hitting them pretty good. I am hitting them further than I was earlier in the year though. The Srixons are longer but not by a full club as I previously thought. Now I get to go through the gapping process again.

For the driver I went back to my 816 but swapped the shaft out to the Atmos Blue 6x. It's a great combo but I would like to bring the launch down a touch so I'll likely swap it out for a Black 6x sometime over the next few weeks. I also have a CB Pro F2 16.5' on the way. It has an R-flex shaft in it so that will be swapped out quickly with an Atmos, most likely a Red 7x.

Since taking the pic above I've also added a Srixon u65 18' 2-iron. I tipped an Atmos HB Red 6s 1/2" and put that in there and it's been a great combo. Average carry is coming in at 242y with 146mph of ball speed and a 1.4 SF. At that yardage I've only hit into a few greens so far and it's holding better than I would have expected, it's also been a fantastic option off the tee. I've been very happy with it thus far.

Have you tried the XV?

I did finally try the XV. I've been practicing with a Srixon sponsored web.com guy and he gave me a few sleeves. It's a really good ball. Spin/launch wise it's fits right in between the TP5 and TP5x. It's a great ball but I decided to stick w/TaylorMade for the time being. It really came down to feel of the cover in the end.

rebby I have to tell you that seeing your black boron BBs changed me. Up until that point I thought I had the sexiest set of irons in my custom paint fill satin BBs. When I looked at them, I thought that way. Then I saw your pics of those black boron and I hit the floor. Made me get the itch real bad, so LOL I got a set (PW-2i) too!

LOL you are the only other ho I've come across with two BB sets. It's a bit of a consolation to know I'm not the only ho that bad. BBs = Best. Irons. Ever.

You have a beautiful iron harem there (LMAO your Pings notwithstanding). Love those Hogans too.
