Great move! That dues is NOTHING, although you probably have only an 7-8 month golf season there too.

For Boston with an initiation that high is steal. IMO. But yeah inflation is a b****.

The big city golf fees are highway robbery! As much as I love golf I'd be a once a month player if I lived in any of the metropolitan areas. No matter what my income was.

Where i am you got to travel outside the city to get deals on decent courses. But worth it

There is a niche of folks looking at National memberships 50 miles from their home. In metro areas this is really smart to do.

The restrictions is usually outside of 150-200 miles from the club. Further they even have language stating not staying within 300 miles for rentals as well I have seen.

Every area is different, 50 miles is typical in Ohio, NC areas. I won't name them, but 2 are top 100 clubs. It's mainly due to not enough locals being able to shell out the $10-15k in annual dues/caddies. Declining areas (Rust belt). Yes, most of the time you can't own property within X miles of Club.
