Commercials PGA Coverage

Enough is enough

I couldn't help but notice the number of commercials on CBS during the PGA Championships. We are not getting quite 5 minutes of golf then we get 2+ minutes of commercials. Then, when coverage begins you get a promotional 20 seconds about an upcoming CBS show, which is a vicarious commerical. It makes you appreciate what Augusta did doesn't it? This is digusting in my opinion, it's actually too distracting to watch. Blood sucking money grubbers!

Geezo! I should be on the course and record this. Anyone know what a normal tour tournament tv interval between commercials is?

It's acually the worst interruptions I ever recall. The PGA ought to renegotiate coverage with another network when this contract expires.

It is virtually unwatchable. I DVR'd last night and found myself picking up the remote constantly to FF through the commercials.

If they wonder why golf viewing is down, this has got to factor into it.

OP - you read my mind. I seem to remember such redundant commercials at another major, but I can't quite remember which one. PROBABLY CBS.

I hate it. I've been flipping over to the Fish/Djokovic final which is live right now on ESPN2 as well. Sheesh. Disgusting.

This is miserable. I am seriously thinking about turning it off. This is not tolerable.

I was literally opening up golfwrx to write a thread on this. The Open was terrible on ESPN with a commercial every 9 minutes, but this is so much worse. They are averaging between 5-8 shots per segment. They should at least do what the IndyCar race on ABC is doing and show a picture-in-picture.

And furthermore I'm not going to invest with Lincoln or buy an Omega. And between the obligatory Low-T and Cialis spots I'm really looking forward to getting older!

So you're not going to support the sponsors which support golf?

Maybe we should just go back to the "good ole' days" and show the last 9 holes of a tournament (if you were lucky).

Commercials have always been this bad. Try watching any football game...it's disgusting.

Can't beat soccer...no commercials until halftime. That's the real beauty of the game.

Not the ones whose products or services I do not want want, no. But I'm glad there are people so easily convinced to spend their money, so thanks!

I sponsor the actual golf companies by purchasing more at locally owned retail shops and my pro shop than most people; and that drives their profits up and goes back into R&D and product development. I'm not going to invest my money with a company because they sponsor a freaking golf event.

Let those guys run the same television ads 8 times an hour, I just stated that the commercials were running way more than normal and the identical ads were being shown every time; and that I was not interested in them and dozing off after their becoming a bit trite seeing them 100+ times over 2 days.
