$199 for Tour 695MB's w/PX's
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N%3AIT&rd=1

I'm pretty sure it's not legit, but I took the chance anyway. Wrapped it up with the BIN---but haven't paid yet.

I think one of two things will happen:

1. eBay will inform me it's a fake auction (i'm not really up for that again). Given that his last auctions were for REM CD's; I'm doubtful about a set of tour 695's :D

2. The seller will say 'oops' meant for that be $1199. :cheesy:

Either way, what do you all think?

What bothers me is that the iem location is in England but he only ships to US. Keep us posted on how it turns out. I mean he does accept paypal so if you went that route and used a credit card then you do have some protection but I would be careful.

Yeah, that does sorta stand out doesn't it....curious....

I've sent an email to eBay to find out if they can 'authenticate' the auction. We'll see who I hear from first...eBay telling me it's a fake or the seller asking me to come up with the extra $1000 that he meant to sell them for!

What makes me suspicious, the seller had a number of sets of clubs including an old set of Honma cavities, TM Rac TP's, X 14's...all for $199 a set but no other golf related auctions.

I'll keep you posted!

I'd first search completed listings to see if those photos were "borrowed" from another auction.

If there were multiple sets sold, see if the background is the same in all pictures.

Only pay with PayPal.

My 2¢. :cheesy:

Yikes PUTTS . . . didn't you learn from your last "too good to be true" incident on ebay just the other week? Your ink on your paypal claim on that purchase hasn't even dried yet and you pull the trigger on this one too?

I've been through the ebay/paypal battles for years as a buyer and powerseller - and am extra weary these days on "deals" such as these.

Anyhow, IF you are going to pay for these (which I don't recommend), you should at least pay through Paypal with your CREDIT CARD. You'll soon learn from your current claim that the Paypal resolution center is fairly useless and mindless and it'll end up being your credit card company that will be your best protection.

Trust me . . . I learned the hard way.

There was a similar thread with similar pictures and I think Johnny point out exactly which auction the pictures were stolen from. Y'all might wanna give him a ring and see if this is the same set of stolen pics . . . looks awfully familiar.

Bad news, bud . . . here's the original and "real" auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PGA-Tour-Issue-Titleis...1QQcmdZViewItem

definitely a scam!

I'm curious as this is a CURRENT auction so if you were to search ebay for "695MB" or whatever, it would have brought back this current as one of the search results. You should have done your due diligence and checked this other auction also and then you would've clearly seen that the auction you bid on was a pile of crap. Not trying to pour salt into the wound but this one's a no brainer . . .

Yep. I found the exact pics a little bit ago.

Like I said, probably not legit.

I haven't paid a nickel for them so as far as I'm concerned nothing lost. I'll take the hit negative feedback/non paying bidder feedback....

Well, here's some good news and a trick of the trade . . . if this scammer has the balls to file a non-paying bidder alert with ebay, all you have to do is reply to the alert stating that you DO intend to pay (but, of course, you never will). eBay has grown so big that they try to get as much automated as possible . . . so the seller is allowed to make ONE claim, which results in a chance for you to reply by clicking on one of three or four radio buttons. If you click the one that states you do intend to pay and complete the transaction, believe it or not, ebay will not let the seller do anything else on this alert even if you DON'T pay.

As a seller, I've had this happen to me several times and it infuriated me. The only way for the seller to get a credit for these auction fees is to manually write ebay and have one of their people manually adjust it. Otherwise, the automated system pretty much considers it case closed.

What you should really do now is report the auction to ebay as having stolen pics by referencing that "real" auction and they'll remove it from their database, thus absolving you from any obligation to complete the transaction.

Hope that helps.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about this. I just had my first issue with a wrong item received...as it turns out the seller was away, corrected it immediately so I have no complaints with him - BUT - just going through the process thru ebay, then forced to go to paypal kinda left me with the impression that I would get no help at all. And that they would charge me 25 bucks for the privilege...and the item cost 30 bucks...so I was glad that it got resolved.

I think that is good advice about paying paypal thru the credit card and I will do this before my next purchase.

Well, I woke up this morning and sure enough eBay retracted my bid and cancelled the auction b/c the seller's account was compromised.

It smelled fishy from the start, but if it wasn't I would have kicked myself for letting it get away!

But....

"if something is too good to be true, it probably is."

  • 2 weeks later...

I had the same thing happen to me with some Nike Splits. The were 200 bucks, so i bought them and waited to pay for a while. For 200 bucks I had to take a change because people do list them and not know what they are, but sure enough ebay cancelled the auction, and prior to that I had realized they had pics listed from another auction . . .

Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. Someone listed a Scotty X sales sample putter for a BIN or $60. I used the buy it now but I sent the seller an email asking him if his account had been hijacked. 20 minutes later I got an email from ebay notifiying me that the sellers account had been hijacked. I noticed yesterday that someone in London was selling about 15 brand new 905R drivers with exotic shafts for a BIN of $125 american with only $15 shipping worldwide. I guarantee that was a scam too. Seems like a lot of people are getting their accounts hijacked.
