How do you prefer to play your fade

Do you aim slightly left, and cut across it (some refer to this as a pull fade), or do you aim further left and swing neutral or slightly in to out with a slightly open club face (some call this a push fade)?

The latter, it's how Trevino did it albeit in an exaggerated way. To the eye it might look like he's going across relative to the target line but he swung out relative to his body and aiming line. 

 

Say you aim inside left edge of every fairway and green at the distance you want to hit it. If you have a square face to path ratio, it's still going to finish on the fairway and green and it's not a double-cross.

 

Having the margin of error range from square to path to too open to path means it's a one way miss, kinda like the third baseline in baseball and center field as your dispersion. 

 

Now if you aimed straight with a leftward path, if your face to path ratio is square, that ball is going left of where you intended which is a double-cross 100%, no buts about it. This is like if you aimed at the third baseline with a leftward path relative to that line and intending to fade it but you squared the face up and now it's a foul ball in the left rough or trees.

aim left and cut across it.  pull fade.

 

push fade is often a disaster shot headed for a different fairway than the hole you are playing.

I try both at times. The more consistent is the aim left, slightly open face, hit ball where aimed.  Push fade.  I love to double cross the out to in path.  Gets me in lots of trouble.

I like to hit the push fade. When you have a tendency to get flippy trying to hit a pull fade especially off the tee brings the worst of the double-cross duck hooks into the picture far too often. I'm a natural draw player, anything starting left is scary to me.

The closest I come to playing a fade is when I accidentally hit just a little baby slice that ends up in the fairway I like to announce, "I always prefer to hit a fade off this tee". 

 

Problem is, I've been playing with the same guys for more than a decade now and they long ago figured out I'm lying. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I only hit my push fade when it's absolutely necessary otherwise I stick with the draw.  Swinging out to in is foreign to me thanks to old school instruction.

I hit the ball fairly straight.  Moving the ball left or right is guided by what I see and instinct, as opposed to engineering.

 It all depends on how I feel about the lie and the slope I have. I usually do a pull fade. I have become fairly good using the pull fade with my driver and my 4 wood and I use it great with my 6 iron punching out from around trees and advancing the ball down the fairway. I haven't figured out my alignment, aiming point when trying the push fade. I usually end up down the fairway in the rough or trees.

I found it helpful visually picking a spot in the sky just before the apex and letting the ball “fade” from the apex 

The fade is very much a throwing action to that apex 

For draws  I see the ball landing and aim the clubface closed and visualize the falling part of the apex and aim my body to swing towards  that window in the sky. 
The draw is very much a “swing” motion

I like for my path to stay consistent in relation to my body. So, I swing along my NORMAL SWING PATH while adjusting my body open to the intended target and the clubface open to my path. The hard part is getting the angles right so that you get the amount of curvature you want. THAT comes from a lot of REAL WORLD practice. My stock driver is about 7 yds of curvature.

90% of the time I play the fade by accident. The other 10% my fade looks like a pull fade. 100% it doesn’t end up going where I had hoped.

I do my best Trevino imitation. I open up, pick the club up, take it back a little outside and lay it off at the top. I never had any trouble playing a cut. On the other hand the older I get the harder to hook a ball on purpose.
