There is no way that there are 2 different levels of quality at Endo (Japan facility putting out superior product to the Thailand facility). I am sure the Thailand facility produces just as good of quality as the Niigata facililty in Japan.

I can't see Callaway, Cobra, Nike etc. saying "hey Endo, we don't mind you skimping on the manufacturing process with our irons, so go ahead take some shortcuts or use inferior processes materials if you like, we don't really care".

I absolute CAN see Callaway, Cobra, Nike etc. saying "hey Endo, WE WANT IT CHEAPER so we don't mind you skimping on the manufacturing process with our irons, so go ahead take some shortcuts or use inferior processes materials if you like, we don't really care".

I doubt these large OEM's are saying lets make a s*** product so we can put our name on it???? They'd be out of business. It's not the materials that are any cheaper. it's the labor. Why do you think NO ONE forges anything in the GREAT USA. Once upon a time if you bought irons from JAPAN circa 1950-1980 it was considered CHEAP. Now it's all about labor cost and if they are paying more to get irons done by ENDO of Japan, they can save a little by going to Thailand or they can be like many other companies and go the China route if they want to save even more money on labor. So Epon will have Endo Japan do a limited run charge 2500.00 per set while Callaway will have Endo Thailand will pump out 100,000 sets and charge 1100.00 a set using same company with just a little cheaper labor ( if the profit margins aren't as high they make it up in VOLUME Sales). Materials will be the same maybe one will have 20 % carbon while another may have 25 %. They are getting their ingots from same steel mill. You can almost guarantee that.

What about the Legacy Black Forged Iron (2012) with the M 10 DB (Uniflex Shafts)? Ordered them sight unseen on the recommendation of longstanding member FreeHB. $770 with shipping. Seems like a good deal. Thoughts?

Don't worry about it. If you don't ding it up too badly, you could recoup most of your cash, I imagine, if you don't like it.

Thanks! I've already been offered $700 and I haven't even received them yet. Going to be extra careful and see how I like them. Thinking that I will at least keep the heads but may change out the shafts.

It all depends on what type of feel you like. For example Miura has a soft thud feel which is solid and soft, epons have a more explosive feel with a slight ting to it, tour stage is soft with an explosive face feel and mizunos are similar to miuras because of the soft and meaty feel at impact. Keep in mind that different players will feel the clubs differently.

I own a set of Miuras and Epons and I agree with your description of how the impact feels. Love them both, but they are different.

Although I am fairly new to the JDM equipment but following all the "Top Rated Equipment" that's in all the magazines and that you see on the shelves at your local golf store. Then when you stumble upon the JDM equipment and go through the fitting process for a set of MIURA/EPON irons and you research the CR*P out of it you soon realize just how SH*TTY all of the OFF THE RACK CR*P IS! I have to put my vote in for MIURA & EPON

I just can't resist putting in a plug on this thread that's been going for three years. I even made a post two and a half years ago. WOW!!

In the meantime it seems to me that Epon is gaining ground. Miura is still the clear leader in "perception". And the others each have their fans.

I think that the missing link is true knowledge of how certain head and shaft combinations play in real life. How can a fan get any real experience without taking a full set to the golf course and seeing how they really play?

The head is an important part of the equation but without the right shaf and balancet, all bets are off.

Unfortunately, the only way to get real experience today is to lay down $1500 to $2000 at the casino Then you'll know.

Time for the manufacturers who really care - or their custom builders who can stand the investment - to make complete sets available for short term rental. Then we'll all know.

Regards, Leith Anderson

It had no badgeings, blade with no chrome. Not really satin.
It was just a mid iron, no number but felt like a 7 maybe.
Said to have been forged by dragon fire.
Most perfect club created.

My first set of Forged Irons were the Nike VR-S Forged w/Nippon N.S. PRO 950GH HT Stiff ~ loved them they were so forgiving then I got turned on to a set of Callaway Razr X Forged Irons w/KBS C-Taper ~ I thought these were even better for my game then a Friend had a set of Callaway Apex Pro Irons 3~PW,AW w/KBS Tour V ~ I HATED THEM!! then I reshafted them with a Pured set of KBS C-Taper 125g S+ that were soft stepped........AMAZING is all I can say........I know there are a lot of Nice Forged Irons out there but for me I'm gonna have to say Callaway Apex Pro Irons all the way.........to each his own on this topic. Now Go Play!!!

I have a set of Honma TW717P's. When I got fit it was between the Honmas and the Mizzuno MP54's.

The Honma's were just much more consistent and felt like pure butter when I was hitting them. A little light with the stock NS Pro S shafts, but still a great shaft.

Would highly recommend anyone looking for forged club to give these clubs a try.

Without doubt Miura, I finally took the plunge as a 40th present to myself, I was so tired of looking at clubs in the garage just depreciating, the extra cost of Miura's I will save in the long term as I know I want be tempted by the yearly gimmicks the major brands produce each year.

I wish I had made the change 20yrs ago I would have saved a fortune “alas”.

The feel Miura offer is amazing which I guarantee no other major brand can replicate.
