I'm hoping the course will be the star of the 2011 President's Cup.

Royal Melbourne appears as #13 in the 2011 Golf Magazine world rankings.

The "Championship" course is a composite of the West and East courses. The west course was designed by Alister MacKenzie and opened for play in 1931. The east course opened a year later and was designed by Alex Russell, who was the construction supervisor with Dr. MacKenzie on the West.

It is generally acknowledged that RM plays a lot like a links course.

Some controversy over recent turf changes made to the course.

The course is short by PGA Tour standards, but I think the it will reward the shotmakers and expose the bomb/gougers for the frauds they are. (cool)

Its an awesome course. I have played there a coupe of times. It doesn't need to be 7200 yards to play tough. this course is all about management and precise shot making. If you are a shaky putter then look out you will have plenty of 3 putts. I will be out there tomorrow following Phil and Bubba. I love watching the lefties.

Played the East and West a few times and composite once...not long and they have had the course basically returfed in preparation for the Cup...meant to be in awesome condition...bunkers here and in sand belt generally the best in the world....the course plays tough if the winds get up and dry out the the ultra quick but true greens...real test to get your ball in position especailly when putting

in March this year they held a tournament there -

Invited teams from all the other Royal courses all over the world then held a 4 day tournament... my dad went with Royal Aberdeen and he was full of compliments for the place, their committee members, their members and of course the course...

looks awesome and glad the coverage is on earlier tonight...

I'm really enjoying seeing this course on TV. I especially like the bunkering and how the bunkers slice right into the green surface and how the fairways are cut right into the bunkers. I always find the typical American setup where the bunkers are surrounded by a sea of rough to be kind of silly. Why have a hazard then grow grass to prevent balls from rolling into it?

Was out there today and the course played tough. The greens were borderline un playable. The weather is expected to be cooler and calmer tomorrow

Yes, 14 on stimp and judging wind into your putt is not even remotely good setup IMO. I envy those that can attend, looks beautiful on the TV.
