Hey guys.... I am buying a new range finder and I settled on the new Bushnell Pro1M My question is do I want to get the slope edition or non slope?
Thanks
[/quote]

If you play in tournaments, the slope version is not legal for tournament play. if you're using it to learn how to judge distance, including slope, then the slop corrected version has its merits.

not just tournaments, but handicapping purposes as well... and even if you turn the slope feature off. but then again, how many abide by that rule?

So the slope version can not be used in handicap qualifiers in the Uk??

Didnt realise this, what about the V2 Bushnell is that any good?

I vote for non-slope. I do firmly believe in using distance-measuring devices like range finders and GPS, or in case of a pro or high-level amateur, a yardage book and/or caddie, which is pretty much the same thing as a range finder.

At the same time, I also believe in a skill-factor component in judging environmental conditions that comes with experience, like slope, wind, temperature changes, elevation, etc. I'm definitely no purist, and I certainly don't mind if someone chooses to use a slope measuring device, but for me personally, I want to learn to adjust my game, swing, club selection, etc. to various conditions.

I don't want to become complacent with my own game and rely on a slope rangefinder to make decisions for me, and though I could still get a slope range finder and choose to ignore it, I might also become dependent on it, which is something I'm not interested in. So that's why I vote non-slope...does it sound contradictory in that I advocate for a range finder but only a non-slope version? Possibly, but that's just how I feel...

i got the non slope version too for the same reasons.

I used to have the gx-3, but i was having problems shooting at the flags and getting different readings. Hopefully Bushnell will be better with the pinseeker technology.

My question for Bushnell owners, do you guys find it easier to get readings from this model compared to a Leuopold GX3?

thanks

There is one golf shop near me that has the non slope in stock but I refuse to set foot in that place.

I just order the one with slope from TGW with 2 days shipping. Will be here on FRi. :-D

slope vs non slope... i think it depends on where you play. If you play in an area with a lot of hills, and you're a casual golf player that isn't caught up in handicaps and tournaments (or the USGA for that matter since we take mulligans and other rules violation while we play), then I'd say the slope seems to be a good investment. if nothing else, a tool to help you learn how to judge how slope effects your distances. But once you're dialed into making those kinds of decisions, and you do want to keep a "legit" (and I use that term loosely if you watch how people keep score sometimes) handicap, or play in tournaments where you want to use it, then save the money and get the non slope. There really is no wrong answer here. I personally am intrigued by the slope version, but I have a feeling that I would be able to judge these changes myself and where i live, it's pretty flat anyway.

Yes, I did receive it on Friday. This is what part of the package looked like upon arrival. TGW sent me the floor model w/slope. Bit dirty, battery is chipped, box is beat up and manual looks like someone slept on it. Going to call TGW on Monday.

I bought a new battery and tested it out. My friends seems to love it, they said it’s like terminator. I like the ease of use and red lettering stands out well. I didn’t get to see the cart girl two fairways over like they advertized but the course was well wooded. She was cute close up. ;)

Is it worth $599? Well, that’s subjective. As for me, I had Retina surgery on both my eyes early this year and need all the help I can get. It works for me. I played with both my Skycaddie and Pro 1M on a course I’ve never played before. Skycaddie gave me overview of the layout and yardages at a glance. Pro 1M gave me the exact yardages to the pin on my approach shots.

In addition, my buddies had V2, 1600 and Bushnell hybrid. They all work well but Pro 1M was definitely the coolest. If not for my retina surgery, I would have been just as happy with V2 or 1600. Didn’t care for the hybrid or the Z6.

Guys may want to consider the Leupold GX-4i (or equivalent model), you may find what many have that the Leupolds are truly superior to Bushnell in every single capacity. Just one man's opinion...BB

Based on your opinion, I assume you've tested both Leupold GX-4i vs Bushnell Pro 1M on the course?
