Dream Trip (need advice from people who have played the courses)

Recommended Posts

Monterey Pennsiula CC Shore Coure, Bandon Resort, Chambers Bay
I have the opportunity to go on a week long trip which includes a round at MPCC Shore Course, followed by Bandon Trails, Dunes, Pacific Dunes and Old Mac then finally Chambers Bay.

Any advice from people who have played these courses, any must do's, places to eat, etc.

There is NO ROOM for more golf or playing different courses so I appreciate the suggestions but the trip is in stone.

Just looking for advice for the courses, etc.

My suggestion would be to get to the courses early before each round to warm up - if you have never played links golf ? and you will be playing in firm conditions 5 of your rounds you might want to practice your putting from 100 yards and in !!!!!

Plenty of people will have suggestions on where to eat but you can't go wrong with the Tap Room at Pebble or McKee's pub at Bandon. The patio attached to the restaurant at Chambers is a very scenic spot to have a meal if the weather is decent.

Getting a caddy for at least one round is helpful and fun.

The upstairs restaurant in the Pacific Dunes clubhouse is a great place for breakfast.

Finally, I know you said "no room for more golf", but I can't resist mentioning that the Bandon Preserve short course (13 par 3 holes designed by Coore & Crenshaw) opens May 1:

+1 for the above advice. Not just longer putts than you've evr done before, but also long bump and run shots. This is especially true at Old Mac

A caddie at Bandon is a must IMO

All courses are Epic.

MPCC Shore - Mike Strantz redesign, place is butter. I think its better than Cypress personally. More interesting holes to be honest.
Bandon is killer, just returned from a big boys trip there. Bandon Trails - as much crap as that course takes - is an awesome Crenshaw / Coore design. If it wasn't at Bandon Dunes, itself would be a top 50 golf course (being compared to courses of a completely diff genre). best course there/most intersting I think is Pacific. Old Mac is money. Bandon Dunes is perhaps the most ho hum of the bunch, I think. Food is mediocre out there, however.

You'll have a blast...

Just got back from Bandon. Jealous but thinking about doing something similar for my 40th next year. Thinking Monterey, SF and Bandon for a week long guys trip.

Food at McKees is overrated, love Trails, Old Mac grew on me and dinner options still need some work but experience is as good as it gets.

Chambers Bay is a very fun course to play. FYI- they are redoing some greens there getting ready for the Open. Just be aware so you won't be surprised or disappointed if they still have some temp greens. Here is a link to some info about the project:

I was just at chambers bay and be prepared to be disappointed....3 temp greens, closed tee boxes, rough course right now as the greens get a lot of play yet not a lot of growth due to the crappy weather here so there a places on the huge greens that are just rolled sand. Stay at Bandon an extra day instead of making the trip to Tacoma!
