Tommorrow we have a 40% chance of rain. Im thinking thats not a problem but someone in my foursome wants to cancel .... would you play or what percentage would scare you away?

I had this dilemma two weeks ago with my brother. The club house even called me to tell me not to come because a "storm was rolling through, we aren't even letting carts out"

Was a 40% chance of rain. After much deliberation and map studying, we played. It mysted the first hole or two. Dry as a bone after.

In laymens terms, I translate a 40% chance of rain to: "It's probably not going to rain, but we put it at 40% in the slim chance it does rain, we could say it was close to a 50% chance. "

Where I live there was a [size="3"][b]70% chance of rain [/b][/size]today and calling for thunder storms all morning into the afternoon... I cancelled my tee time and told my girlfriend I would go shopping with her... guess what... [size="3"][b]it didnt' rain a drop.

If I was a member of a club, paying a monthly due and no daily fee, I'd give it a go.

Not crazy about the idea of shelling out fifty bucks to be wet and cold for 4+ hours.

If the turf is in good condition BEFORE the rain (and I'm not tramping around in the mud), and we aren't talking thunderstorms.....

As long as it's not a thunderstorm with lightning everywhere, I don't mind playing in the rain...especially if it's my only chance of the week.

If we had someone in our group that wanted to cancel because of 40% chance of rain we would have to call him a "Sissy Boy".
We start paying attention to the weather when it calls for 70% chance of rain. I'll check out the weather maps and radar hrs. before our tee time. Sometimes I might cancel our time and try to book one at another course in a different direction that looks more promising if rain is headed our way.We will travel an hr. away just to try and avoid the rain if possible. In any case usually at 70% if it isn't raining by the time we are suppose to leave for the course we will go ahead and go anyway.

40% means that most likely it WONT rain!

I don't look at those percentages, I take a look at radar and see if there's a huge line of thunderstorms coming from the south east.

It depends on where you live, usually 40% means your chances are good to not see rain. Pack an umbrella, go play!

Living here in Florida, you're better off looking a the skies. 40% can mean, 40% of the city is going to see rain 100% of the time.

Considering that most of the year the temperature in my country is 80 to 90* F, overcast skies with a chance of a drizzle are an attraction. However, as I'm not as new as long ago, these days I quit when a monsoon or typhoon is in session.

We have a permanent tee time Sunday mornings and last year i was dragged into playing in a lightning storm (hitting all over the course) for 7 holes. I was pretty sure I'd be taking my dirt nap by the time I took the turn. One of the most insane things I've done in a long time, not smart. But 40% chance of rain I'd give it a go.

Find a new fourth and get out there. 60% chance of no rain. 100% chance you'll be playing golf! Can't lose!

Anything below 60% and I'm making the trip of it's under 45 minutes to the course. Regardless of where I am if it starts raining I will either wait it out for usually an hour or if there is no lightning I will just play through. I feel like life's to short to not play in the rain, I mean we always played in the rain when we write kids right?

Depends on where you live. I grew up in Seattle and 40% meant it was going to pour. In Central Oregon, it means it might rain, maybe for a few minutes then the sun will come out.

Those are the best days because it scares everyone away! I have not regretted making the trip at all in these situations. Just man up (unlike your 4th), pack some rain gear and have fun!
