"Club" membership

Hi all,

 

I'm thinking of joining a club of some description so I can get an official GHIN handicap and maybe play in a tournament or two this year. Joining a private club is out of my price range so I was looking into the MGA in New York. They have an "eClub" that you can join, which is just online and costs 40 bucks a year. Is anyone a member of the NYC eClub? And if so, are there any smaller size tournaments that I can play in just from being part of that eClub? Or is it just a way to enter the MGA events? Further, does anyone know if there are any MGA events played on the weekend?

There's a number of online clubs that will get you an official handicap ... Golfsmith runs a good one ($30 a year) ... you select the course closest to you ...

I've played in two MGA "Play Day" events/tournaments - well run and reasonably priced ($75.00 w/breakfast, lunch and prizes - usually at clubs that cost more for a regular t-time). That being said, you can compete in their events as long as you keep a handicap at a club that is a member of the MGA (not sure if Golfsmith is...). I think you can go to just about any public course and get a handicap (ghin) for $30 - $35.00. Good Luck
