Has he given up on the USA tours??

Got my answer. Did not know he was rebuilding.

His website quote;

“Playing the European Tour would give me the opportunity to rebuild my game without all the attention of the media in the U.S.,” Notah said. “I have some big goals left to achieve and the first step will begin in Europe.”

Maybe David Duval should join him too. Smart move. IMO -Better than staying with the Nationwide Tour.

I dont know why more young stars dont try their hand at the european tour. granted the purse money isnt as big but come on your still making good money. PLUS who doesnt like traveling all over the world seeing the amazing sights. i know that if i ever make a run at the tour i might just try starting out in europe.

The only reason the media pays attention to him to any extent was he was a friend/team mate of Tigers.

I don't think being TW's friend was got him on Tour before.

IIRC Notah Begay has actually won something, maybe that is the reason why people still pay attention?

Maybe people that have a similar culture to his want to read up on him?

Maybe the guy isn't playing well, no need to pile it on.

He did make it - despite a final round 76 he gained his European Tour Card by finishing in a tie for sixth.

He is the ONLY Native American to play on any tour, I give him major props plus he is a really cool guy.

I met him several times over the years and I like his style of play, ackward to us but effective and a first for anyone from his culture.

Bieng Tigers good friend is a plus but he is capable of playing good golf.

I wish nothing but good fortune for the guy no matter what tour he plays on!

I'll try to put this as gently as I can, but that's absurd.

Notah Begay was a top notch junior player and has a great amateur record. He was a Walker Cup player, and he holds the record for lowest NCAA championship round (something one might have expected El Tigre to accomplish while at Stanford). He played on an NCAA championship winning team.

And, he has four PGA tour victories.

Had he not injured his back, there is little reason to believe he wouldn't have had another four by now.

I don't think being friends with Tiger has anything to do with it. I'd even go so far as to venture that maybe 10 people in the media are even aware of it.

Excellent post. But you're wrong about 10 people in the media being aware of his friendship with Tiger. It's at least 12 or 13 I'd say :crazy: But seriously, it's common knowledge that they are buddies of sorts... they went to college together for chrissakes. ;)

Agreed. He deff has the skills. Hence the attention. The Tiger connection just adds to his resume

if i remember correctly he shot a 59 on the old Nike tour. another great argument for his playing ability... i shot like a 48 with him in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 at Sawgrass from the tips.
