Help with graphite shafts for G20 or Razr XF irons

Hi everyone, my first post on here. I'd like to hear any thoughts on suitable graphite shafts for some Ping G20 or Callaway Razr XF irons. I'm torn between the two sets. I'm 33 and have had a serious back injury, herniated disc between L4-L5, along with various issues in my cervical vertebrae (another 4 minor disc herniations) hence the reason I've decided to go with graphite shafts for my new clubs. My current irons are Callaway Diablo Edge with stock shaft, flattened 1 degree. I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has any experience with the G20 or Razr XF irons using graphite shafts, either the stock or with custom shafts. Would the Project X graphite shafts be a viable option? I am a higher handicapper at 20 and I am looking for a game improvement iron with a lighter feel as I want to get back playing again without being in constant pain. Not exactly sure of my swing speed but my 5 iron distance is about 160m or 175 yards, my 7 iron distance is about 135m or 150 yards. Fairly average numbers I suppose.

just ordered g20 reg shaft ping graphite. 54 yrs old 7iron 160, 8hcp. ping fitter said i could hit stiff or reg. but didnt think i would be getting any younger or stronger so why not get reg? OUCH. i hit many different shafts clubs and brands (demo days) and the g20 reg graphite was best. and im also moving from cally edge graphite, its a very good club just time to change, lol.

I changed out my G20 stock shafts (regular stiffness) to Studio Matrix graphite shafts and am REALLY happy with the new shafts after 1 year. What a difference! I highly recommend you give these shafts a try. By the way, I'm 65, have a 7.0 hdcp, and hit my 7 iron around 150 yds.

Thanks for the replies gents. I'm seriously thinking of going with the G20s shortened by -0.5 inch and with the red dot (0.75 degree flat) although still really not sure what to go for with regards to shaft. The Project X graphite 5.0 looks great and I'm sorely tempted.

Anyone with any experience of the Razr XFs? Also, a friend of mine recently tried out the Mizuno JPX 800 HDs and loved them. So many options now in the GI and SGI categories it's difficult to choose. It's easy to get bogged down in all the technical details. I suppose I'm best off getting out there and hitting them!

Not exactly, but I can say that if you do go w/ Callaway, they offer the Aldila VS-proto iron shafts as an optional upgrade and they are a great iron shaft. I got them in my Razr X tours at the end of last year. Also should be a touch lighter than the PX.

what do you like about the studio matrix in irons? never tried them but have hit graphite in irons for years. always looking for something better! thx.

It sounds like the stock TFC169i in R flex might be a good place to start.

I just received a set of G20 irons with the TFC169i shaft in R flex after being fitted at a PING demo day vs. the CFS steel shaft. The ball flight and distance with graphite was superior to steel (graphite was a touch higher and a bit longer). Not only that, they feel great and look great. There's none of that leading arm fatigue you get when doing range time with steel. I've been tempted to get irons shafted with Aerotech, but I'm going to give the TFC169i a full season of play before making any re-shafting decisions. 10 index, 7 iron 155y.
