Anyone else notice with the GC's coverage of the Phoenix...

They talk a lot about equipment?

That the Japanese guy talks a lot about the players equipment? I noticed that 2 days in a row they were talking about the irons TW was playing and his putter. They were also talking about Padraig's driver.

They never do this on U.S. television. Some kind of licensing issue or something, I'm sure.

The Japanese announcer actaully made mention that Tiger calls his putter "cammy" (awww how sweet scotty) and that he was using a t40 and that the only place you could probably get them now was on eBay.

Just thought that was interesting.

Doubt it's a licensing issue. The U.S. networks probably just don't want to give away "free" advertising.

it was that asian announcer... it was great he was talking about tiger's new irons. he said how pretty much the only difference is the location of the swoosh... and then he said "no word on if that'll be coming to retail." i've never heard an announcer say anything like that.

In Japan they are obsessed about equipment. They have magazines that detail every item of equipment, and everything is dissected to the nth degree. You think this place is for obsessed eqpt junkies? You ain't seen nothing :-)

 

I also agree that there is no way on this planet the networks will give away anything that remotely resembles a plug...unless it is for the "reality" shows or flavor of the month "CSI (insert state/city/town of your choice here)"...or some little pill that will stiffen a shaft of a different kind.

I love the coverage, aside from all the Japanese writing I can't understand a lick, they have a ton of super high speed cameras from several angles and show slow mo replays of swings all the time. I heard the comment about Tiger's 3 wood and laughed. US broadcasts are less technically advanced I think, although I wish the golf channel would go High Def.

I think they did a lot better job of shooting at the Phoenix than they do over here in the states. There was much better camera angles, that it seemed like we dont see a lot. Maybe it was just me?

I was impressed with the coverage and thinking to myself the entire time, Maybe the Golf Channel will take note and hire the producer of the coverage for their coverage. At first I didn't like the graphics on the greens like the first down line in football, but they grew on me. I liked the circles they placed around the hole to see just how close approach shots were. The close up high speed replays of the hands were wonderful.

Has Tigers putter always had the black dot in the cavity? I thought it was red, but the close ups they had showed it was black.

Andy Wada was flat out AWESOME!!! Thank god because Craig Kann drove me nuts! I loved the slow motion camera videos. I bet Andy Wada has an awesome collection of tour clubs! Must be nice to have contacts out there...

I agree....i also liked the way they showed the slope in the greens....

 

They also did a great job with the distence off the tee and in to the green with a line like a first down marker in football......i'd like to see that on TGC.....

Uhh..it was being broadcast off of a Japanese television feed. Good lord.

 

Seconding the Golf Channel in Hi Def. I'm not one to say "I heard..." but I did hear that it was in the works. What a total waste to watch all that new 2007 golf on the GC in SD.

 

I also liked how they showed TW's swing from every angle in about 20 seconds.

Ditto on enjoying the Japanese broadcast. I love the longer breaks between commercials too. (That ABC coverage can be really annoying)

 

All the replays on swings, focusing on different angles... really nice. A refreshing look at what you -can- do on golf broadcasts.

 

I'm would imagine the GC will go Hi-def because my localy cable company just pushed it from the 'analogue' tier and moved it to the hi-def channel tier (which of course means more $$$).

from the coverage i've been able to catch (all of 3rd, and working on last right now), they due a FANTASTIC job... their graphics are so much better than ours, and they give you all kinds of angles for each shot...

 

the US should take some pointers from this coverage...
